Through the years you’ve marched on,
Through the tears and your fears.
Through pain and pleasure,
Through hell and high water.
Still you march through life.

A beacon of strength,
A model of perseverance.
You trip, you fall
You get back up and move on.
You get bumped and bruised
You get scrapes and cuts,
You patch yourself up and move on.

When people spit acid words,
You simply step to the side,
Avoid it all.
When your hand is forced
You show the world you’re not a rug.
With a fire in your eyes and strength in your soul you march on.

Giving where you can with all you can,
A heart as big as the sun
And a will even bigger
You do what you can where you can
Selfish isn’t a word you know the meaning of.

I look up to you with shining eyes
Watching in wonder at your strength
Your will
Your heart.
In awe I watch, trying to follow in your footsteps.
I hop from one to the other straining
When I finally fall you’re there.
You’re there to pick me up and hold my hand.
You’re there to whisper words of encouragement,
You’re there to help me move on.

I smile and watch as you march through life,
With eyes filled with admiration and love,
And quietly I say to myself,
I wanna be just like you Mom.
