I'd choose a bright, vibrant, happy blue or purple personally. I think that would be so much fun.

Is what I like personally, it would be so fun !
at my school, when we put our violas down, we sometimes mix them up by accident. That's why we have to engrave our names into our poor violas gonk crying

I colored viola sounds like a cool idea, but imagine playing in a professional orchestra like the Chicago Symphony and having a colored instrument, it would stand out so badly. If I did have a colored instrument though it would be either blue or black.

Dark Red/Maroonish Or Light Blue. You can actually have your instruments colored and you bows too, it's pretty cool.

That completely devalues and probably changes the sound of the entire instrument! Who in GOD'S NAME is teaching you?!?!?!?! *prays the engraving is on the scroll*

Katasa I colored viola sounds like a cool idea, but imagine playing in a professional orchestra like the Chicago Symphony and having a colored instrument, it would stand out so badly. If I did have a colored instrument though it would be either blue or black. You make a good point, and I personally think that the traditional, natural appearance of stringed instruments is best. Like concert black, I used to hate it when I was younger, but certain traditions and precedents are important for situations. For a symphony, the natural wood and traditional black make sense, but for something like say, a Jazz ensemble or a Pops concert, I don't see why having a fun colored instrument or changing up the dress couldn't be acceptable. Actually, now that i think about it, when I went and saw the Grand Rapids Symphony do the Distant Worlds concert, one of the cellists had a black cello and it looked really cool, but it interrupted the uniformity of the ensemble. But, since it was a Final Fantasy concert, I suppose its ok XD I was actually really impressed with most of the fans knowing enough to at least dress up a little =) Much better than in Chicago, where most people came in jeans. P.S. The Chicago symphony is amazing =)

I always feel so much more professional performing in front of people that care enough to find it a formal event. Other wise, it seems like they're obligated to be there and aren't enjoying it...which is depressing.

Yep, exactly, like at my last concert, we played Fingal's Cave, which is like 10 minutes long at our tempo, and I had ppl come and say "Wow that piece was SUPER long". Which it isn't, especially compared to many other pieces, but you could tell that most ppl were not there for the music XP
