Well, My friend Gloria who plays Viola, She calls her Viola 'Einstein'.
I call my viola 'Lady Carmen' and my violin 'Lady Sharon'.
This guy in my class who plays Clarinet calls it 'Claire'

I have two violas and I named both of them. Bows too. They have back stories..anywhoo.
My one larger viola is Stevi Bob & the crappy late bow is Carlos (may he rest in two pieces).
The other one is Lady MacBeth (my all time favorite Shakespearean character, she was awesome) and the bow is Mercutio (2nd favorite).
I know my friend Becca named her violin Bullets.

My viola's name is Benny, my friend Amy's violin is named Nightingale, and Lin's violin is named Chico. In my orchestra we also think of nicknames for people. Alex, Marissa and I did a cool video on the history of the bow back in 6th grade involving Alex as an old guy with a beard and Marissa as Sheldon the turtle so Alex is now Poppy and Marissa is Sheldon. Other nicknames: Mario, Luigi, Tater Tot, Tartar Sauce, Fruit Fly, Ducky, Noodle and Psycho. (Oddly enough, I still don't have a nickname. I think my director's used to calling me Elizabeth.)

I named my viola Catherine, and everyone thinks I'm talking about some girlfriend they've never met when I say I miss her. I get a lot of "I thought you were gay" comments. But don't worry, my dear Catherine is a deep soul, and I very rarely find a moment when I can not get lost in her beautiful resonances.

I don't have a name for my viola but I still love it. Another violist calls her viola Edward (from FMA) and her bow Alfonse. It might be the other way around but I don't remember.
