Whether it's required reading in high school, dog-eared favorites on our bedside table, or the final book in a series we wait sixteen hours in line for, we have all read books that have left an impression on us. From Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby to the pop culture phenomenon of Twilight, from curling up with a novel in a comfy chair by the fire to hastily skimming one five minutes before a college final on its contents, we have all experienced the thrill of discovering a new world or a new wealth of information, leaving our daily lives behind to explore the pages of a book. (Wow, am I melodramatic!)

I FOUND A STAR TREK KID'S BOOK YESTERDAY. It's amazing. XD

I'm currently reading Perdido Street Station and The Scar by China Mieville. For school, I'm reading our poetry book AND The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde.

Mieville kicks a** in a very frightening way, but I haven't started Dorian Grey yet.

THE OUTLANDER SERIES BY DIANA GABALDON.

It transcends cheesy romance novels and brings actual intrigue to the genre. It's really well written, funny, sad at times. The characters are so awesome. There is a good amount of physical romance in there, but it's nothing graphic or pornographic, and it's never the main focus of the story.

Oh, my, god. Just read it.

I'm reading The Watchmen graphic novel since I didn't finish it. Also rereading parts of Gatsby because I love the book so much. The teacher caught me stealing a copy and told me to keep it... and any other books I liked in her room. sweatdrop She was so kind.

@Cassy: I'm going to the used bookstore at some point. Will probably look for the rest of the series so I can read it.

I shall give a list or... something like one!

Manga: Parasyte and Naruto are my fav's. Parasyte because it is a sick and twisted story about parasitic creatures that basically crawl into a human, consume the head and take it's place, controlling the body and... being. awesome. It's so good, and the Parasyte's are so emotionless but intelligent- eerie and makes you think. And I just got a soft spot for Naruto, I can't help it! I love the characters and the... ninjas! It's just really good in my opinion. :3

Books: Laurell K. Hamilton's series. All she writes about is basically sex, but there's some plot involved. Also werewolves. 1984 by George Orwell is always a fav. The Plucker by Brom- an illustrated story, it's so crazy and awesome, plus Brom is one of my favorite artists ever.

That's it for now...

A friend loaned me Poppy Z Brite's "Drawing Blood." I'd rather read her more recent non-vampire/squick works, but I'm thrilled anyway.

It's way too difficult to find a used copy of Twilight ><

It's because no one wants to trade in their copy. Xp

I'm going to reread the Harry Potter series this year. I've never read them in order, one through seven.

I'm also wanting to start reading Fruits Basket (manga) again, from the beginning. I stopped reading around volume.. 12?

Okay, so, Anita Blake is probably the most awesome female character I've encountered in a supernatural series ever. Her sense of humor in particular really draws me to her. Initially I found her boring and annoying, but further digging into her personality revealed the dozens of layers to her character that aren't obvious at first glance.

I've finished up to Lunatic Cafe. I can't wait to get into the next one. heart

Oh you have such a long and delightful way to go. As it happens, I didn't read the first.. two books in the series? So perhaps I missed out on Anita's annoying side.

Also found out today that she does have a new book out, came out in December (Divine Misdemeanors)! Not of the Anita Blake series, but here other series I also looove, the Meredith Gentry series, which takes place in a "fairy" world. Sexy tentacle demon meeen... and yes. Once you catch up on Anita Blake please do look into this series as well!

Also apparently:
Book 18: Flirt Forthcoming February 2, 2010.
Book 19: Bullet Forthcoming June 1, 2010.
