Redskins release veteran DE Taylor after one season
NFL.com Wire Reports

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. -- The Washington Redskins have released defensive end Jason Taylor, the team announced Monday.

In 2008, his lone season with the Redskins, Taylor started eight of the 13 games in which he played. He totaled 29 tackles, 3.5 sacks and nine passes defensed.

Jason Taylor, DE

2008 Statistics (starting 8 out of 13 games he played in, had a calf injury & played hurt through some)
Sacks: 3.5
Tackles: 29
FF: 1
Passes Defended: 9

"Jason Taylor was a real professional during his time with the Redskins," coach Jim Zorn said. "He played hurt, but still gave his best effort to be prepared and play hard every week. We wish him and his family the very best."

The Redskins gave the Dolphins a second-round pick in 2009 and a sixth-round choice in 2010 for Taylor.

Taylor, 34, is a six-time Pro Bowler and 12-year NFL veteran. He spent 11 seasons with the Miami Dolphins, and earned the 2006 Associated Press NFL Defensive Player of the Year award after collecting 13.5 sacks, two interceptions and two touchdowns.

His 120.5 career sacks rank 14th all-time and is the most among active players. His 42 career forces fumbles are the most in NFL history since the stat began being tracked in 1991. Taylor was a third-round pick by the Dolphins in the 1997 draft out of Akron.

In 2007, Taylor was chosen NFL Man of the Year.

In my mind bad move by the skins, hes still great, and just had a calf injury last season. The guy is still a monster. I have a lot of respect for him, espically since he played college ball @ The University of Akron.

Hes going to be on another team, maybee even the dolphins? You never know.

Jason Taylor would have cost the Redskins too much money this season, so that's why they let him go. He's still a good player that can make an impact, but he's worth a bit too much.

they let him go for his work ethic, he didnt want to be with the team in the offseason pretty much. Thats bullshit(excuse my language). If ihe wants to play ball then he needs to be with the team when they are working.

Niners would love a pass rusher.

Jason Taylor is getting old. He wants to win a Super Bowl as soon as possible. So I don't think he'd sign with any of those teams (although the 49ers and Bucs may be good fits). They're not in his best interest for the short term.

The Cowboys probably don't have the money. They already refused to re-sign a good DE in Chris Canty. They also signed Brooking, and released Roy Williams and Terrell Owens partially because of salary reasons.

I won't say he's washed up but you never heard a word from him last year. I don't think his heart is in it anymore. You know he wants to be an actor

He needs t ocome to Minnesota.

Can you imagine O Lines to stop a line that goes Jared Allen-Pat Williams-Kevin Williams-Jason Taylor?

The Vikings probably won't take that chance. Jason Taylor would cost the team a lot of money, and receiver is their primary target in either free agency or the Draft.

Yeah, possibly. I think he has a couple of years left in him, but he won't be too effective. He hasn't been to healthy lately, but he can help develop young players at the position and still help a team on the field. The primary reason for his release, though, was money. He wasn't worth that top salary.
