The mare stepped through the open fields of the expansive plains, uncertain of her whereabouts but unperturbed all the same. Kaiya didn't know where she was heading, but she was following her heart and a long, lost but insanely familiar presence. There was only one whom she knew so well, one whom she could pick out so easily from the hearts of all the others. . . .
And she certainly hadn't expected to cross paths with him on the kawani.
How long had it been, she mused. Too long. . . . She had been young and smitten, she had known him to be her betrothed. . . but she had also been dedicated to her work. She knew love through him but had been unable to fully give him her heart. The souls of the damned cried out to her and she felt restless and complascent . . . . So she had let him go, she had picked her path.
It might have looked easy, but not a day went by where the mare didn't wonder what might have come had she stayed.
. . . .but every step was an adventure, and though Kaiya wondered about what might have been, she didn't regret her choice. The stallion had his own distractions, his own battles; the heavens had cried out and cast him and his brothers aside . . . Though Kaiya never judged the stallion or his kin, she also understood that their betrothal was broken fully because of it. The expectations placed on her shoulders had been removed. . .
But it hadn't been the mares choice. Oh no, it was after raising Sirian that the mare remembered fully her promise. Though she knew not what might come of a reunion, Kaiya anxiously sought out her long lost companion and friend.

Although the bonds from long ago, the betrothed and near union of two souls, were broken when punishment was sentenced against he and his brothers Raiju had never forgotten her. No, how could he? The stallion had truly been smitted by her- an Angeni whose demeanor was caring, compassionate much like his own, and a mare whose very presence seemed to stir such sensations feelings inside of him. It were these feelings, ever present to this day, that led him toward the clearing in hopes of perhaps catching a glimse or even a unforgettable memory to gracefully fade before his eyes- a small reminder of her would be well worth his sake of keeping the memory of her alive. But there seemed something more; his heart was already fluttering and her scent, that refreshing and simply irresistable scent of hers seemed to linger within the air as if teasing him. It pulled at his nostrils and nearly spun his memories faster than he had time to even gather up a clear thought. With her the composed and rather eloquent stallion seemed to lose his train of thought, his tongue becoming like a weight and feeling much like a bashful colt. Although those were his younger days, a part of him still felt as if he would, if ever within her presence once again, would fall victim to such a silly thing.
He had longed to return to the skies but for one who remained banished such a hope was lost although he had no intention to kiss up to the gods, to make amends when there was no fault which was accountable in their names. If he could just see her perhaps he could at least spend the rest of his days knowing that she was well. Raiju felt comfortable knowing that she was well as Kaiya's life revolved around the damned and helping them obtain redemption, setting them upon the straight and narrow and putting the piece of their shattered lives back together. She always had such a driven passion and a knack for such a thing; it was no surprise that it was her close ties to her own calling in life which had nulled their near union.
Was Raiju bitter? No. He was happy for her! He only hoped that one day he would find his own calling, some destiny or purpose which he was best suited for. But for now it seemed he was best at trying to at least keep his brothers in line and out of trouble.
The cool breeze of winters end wisped about him, caressing against his face while his goatee seemed to sway slightly with the breeze. He smiled. Raiju had been dreaming and hoping for a reunion, an opportunity to take the mare on a walk that she would never forget and always remember. All the while his heart strings seemed to tug while hooves led him somewhere but the more he continued to easily stroll through the open valley the more he was starting to slowly realize that perhaps the star he had been wishing on night after night had, for one time only as if out of guilt, granted him a wish. His wings ruffled, stretching outward slightly before they tucked against his side and pure, glowing orbs of cerulean blue settled upon a figure in the distance. Raiju could feel his serpent tail sway slightly as he exhaled. Eyes needed not to strain nor did he have to call out to the figure and be assured that it was she- he knew without a shadow of a doubt.
It was Kaiya.
A warm feeling, something so comforting, stirred within him as he slowly approached. There was a moment where Raiju never knew he could feel like this- it was as if he was seeing the sky or beholding the earths beauty for the first time. He never doubted that with Kaiya that he would be happy, complete even, but she had chosen her path and Raiju was left to discover what his calling was to be. But even so his heart continued, and perhaps would never cease, to tell him to give her everything. Seasons would change but if there was one thing it was sure, it was he loved her until the end of time. Even if they could not be together, there would always be a place within his heart for her and he would love her until his dying day.
His tail curled around one of his back legs as the small wings attached to them fluttered. He tried to look his best- granted that perhaps the last time she saw him he had quite a different mane rather tham a mop top upon his head and a trailing blaze of mane down his back and had a regal, long flowing tail rather than something so serpent like. As if helping him to look somewhat decent, the wind did wonders in weaving through his hair, fluffing it up slightly while the crown upon his head remained in place as if by a miracle.
Raiju chuckled. He didn't want to truly calculate how long it had been since they had been with one another but he was more than certain that it had been such a long time. Gancing down at the necklaces that hung around his neck, old tokens from his father as well as a special someone, he drew a deep breath as hooves summoned themselves to unlatch from the ground and begin walking.
He said nothing. For all that he could do was display a broad, warm smile across his maw. Secretly his heart felt as if it leapt from his chest, it pitter-pattered with excitement as he reminded himself that later he would need to thank that lucky star of his.

The mare felt his presence before she saw him on the horizon, and a part of her wondered exactly how he felt. Would he look upon her differently now? Well. . . . well of course he would, she gently scolded herself, so much time had passed and so many events had changed their relationship. Though he had been cast out from the heavens, it had been her choice to end their engagement and it had been her choice to follow her path.
She didn't regret it. . . No, she never could have given him her whole heart. He deserved someone to love him wholly, someone who would keep his heart forever. Kaiya had picked her path and though she felt no regret, every now and then the mare did wonder. . .
What might things have been like had he never fallen? What might things have been like had she chose to stay? Would they have a family of their own by now? Would they still be in love and happy? Raiju would make a fine mate and would always hold a special place within her heart but. . . .his heart was not hers to keep.
No. . . . It belonged to another and she could only hope he might someday find such joy.
For now though, the angeni could only hope that this meeting would be a joyous occassion. And, perhaps, she might be able to discuss the purpose of her visit. It was a delicate subject, at least to Kaiya, but it was something that needed to be done. She had made him a promise, long before his fall and before she had fully come to understand her place in the world; she had given him her word and though many years had passed and many changes happened . . . Kaiya intended to make good her vow. She had once vowed to give him heirs, back when they had once been betrothed; just because their paths changed, just because she had let his heart free from the burden of her duty, didn't mean she had forgotten her promise.
Oh no.
This was where she needed to be. To at least offer to make good her vow, to give him what she had once promised. Whether he wished such a thing or not would remain to be seen. . .
Duo toned eyes studied the large male that trotted towards her. Though he was still a good distance away, the mare found herself admiring his strength and overall congeniality. There was a confidence that didn't supersede in to arrogance; there was a peaceful air about him and yet one look at his physique promised trouble should one dare cross him. He would always be a handsome and heavenly soul to the mare, regardless of his mutations and fall from grace.
He would always be her dear Raiju, no matter how much time passed.
Shuffling her wings, the mare picked up her trot to more swifly bridge the distance between the two. Her own heart began to flutter ever so slightly, though she was unsure whether it was a moments anxiety or reservation about the reason behind her visit. She hadn't meant to avoid the stallion, work and a search for her fallen brother had been her immediate task at hand; then, of course, guiding Sirian and helping train Galahad had also taken up much of her time.
"Well, well, well," she finally spoke, her smile warm and broad. "If it isn't my dear Raiju." Strangely enough, there was no awkwardness and the mare couldn't resist. Stepping closer to the stallion, she wrapped her neck affectionately around his own and spread her tattered wings around him in a fond embrace. It was just like the old days, was it not?
