Pandora slipped and slid through the cool mud with glee. It was a beautiful night to be out and about, the moon was not too bright as it peeked out from behind the clouds and a cool soft wind blew through the trees. As she rolled around in the mud, her companion, and her eyes, Stark the Raven was perched on a tree branch hanging over her head near by. The bird decidedly did not like getting muddy, as Pandora did, so he preferred to stay over her head until she needed him. For now Pandora could see just fine by using a sort of sensitive radar that pulsed through the small shriveled legs sprouting out of her back and through the ground around her. As the radar moved across the area, every time something protruded form the ground the signal moved up it, helping her calculate how high the trees were, where large rock and branches she might trip on are, and whether or not she was alone in her boggy mudbath...

Herne too thought he was alone. While he didn't lack in eyes, his sight was none too good during the daytime. Night felt like a soothing balm to him. Dark waters where his preferred haunt, places where he could lurk beneath the surface, sending out one cattail as a lure to tempt others in...

The hunt was what drew Herne out tonight. He gazed balefully at the bright moon, hissing slightly as he drew his body out of the water. He always felt so much more graceful in that liquid medium than on land, and his sensitive skin was prone to drying out quickly. He felt almost amphibian, a concept he supposed was largely alien for his kind.

His heavy head swiveled, unusual twisted horns curled tightly against his skull. Had he heard something? He had. It sounded too large to be prey, so by Herne's definition, it must have been a challenge.

"Hark, go no further!" He had a deep voice, though there was a suggestion of damp and moisture about it that was more than off-putting.

Pandora felt a strange vibration on her radar and stiffened; she hadn't expected anyone to find her. She grumbled and thrashed her tail, she ALSO hadn't expected anyone to see her covered in mud, out of all things. Using her power over fog, Pandora wrapped herself in a dank mist that turned the mud into a sludge that simply slid off her smooth skin, leaving Pandora sparkling clean. As she felt the vibrations come nearer, Pandora stuffed her extra four legs strait into the mud, helping them get an even better reception of the world around her.

Then, suddenly, Pandora heard a voice, and what it said, and she couldn't help but laugh curtly. "Excuuuuse me? Who do ya think you are? I'll go wherever I damn well please thank you very much!" Pandora snarled as she started her mental connection with Stark. The raven reacted immediately to Pandora's mental probe and flapped to her shoulder. He then blinked a couple of times as his eyes began to glow, meaning that now Pandora was seeing through his eyes. Pandora turned her head, and Stark followed with his head in perfect harmony so that with every move of her neck, Pandora saw in the direction her head was turned.

The creature before him was exquisite. While Herne felt anger at her for her impudent behavior, he was overwhelmed by lust and the need to... possess her. She would look fine in his collection of nice things. But was she blind? On closer inspection, it appeared she didn't have any eyes. But the extra legs, her whole aura...

"I'm terribly sorry to intrude onto your territory." Herne sounded polite, even cordial. He had to win over this mystery female, if it was the last thing he did!

"I am Herne. I was simply looking for food. I had no idea another lived here. I suppose it is my lucky day." If it was another male, Herne would not have hesitated to kill the pan outright. As it was, killing was about the furthest things from his thoughts right now.

Pandora cocked her head as Stark's imagery began to bombard her mind. There, standing before her, was one of the more interesting painters she had ever laid her eyes one. Now Pandora... she has seen many strange things during her excursions, extra eyes, malformed wings, feathers sprouting out of the randomest places, and one painter that was so odd looking she wasn't sure if it even WAS a painter... And... this painter was no exception. He seemed to be made out of water, it perked Pandora's curiosity to say the least, but she wasn't very interested in the male. Especially because he was acting so stiff, Pandora liked to bother stiff painters like them, it was fun!

With a shrug, Pandora replied to the male, "Oh no... this I not my territory. No, my home is much more interesting... and I had no intention on asking you to leave so you've no reason to explain your reasons for wandering about..." Then she smiled an laughed, "Your lucky day? To meet me? Oh that is funny... I'm about the last person most people enjoy meeting... and I like it that way..." Pandora shuddered before continuing, "No... I would hate to be loved by everyone... it is unnatural..."

Clearly this would be far more difficult than Herne had anticipated. Was it worth it? His mind, and what might have been called a heart in most circumstances, said yes. Their genetics would create strong children, grey in skin but with sharp senses and adept to many environments. But what else could he say that would impress her?

"True... but many things would be unnatural. How do you look towards me? Do you listen?" Herne was slightly unsettled by the two familiars- he could not see the point of having food as companionship. He would much rather each be in his belly, though admittedly one didn't look too tasty. The bird though... No. He was a companion of this beautiful female, and Herne's reproductive needs would not silently themselves.

"Do your extra legs do much good, my lady?"

Pandora smiled sweetly, masking the anger that welled up inside her. She hated it when people treated her differently because of her deformities, she was just as adept as any other Painter. If anything, she had talents that most Painters couldn't even DREAM of having! Though the smile was still plastered on her face, there was a hard edge to her voice as Pandora replied, "I can see, just in my own different ways. Instead of just using one organ, I use my entire body to sense the world around me..." As she continued to talk, Pandora's voice seem to smooth out, but slowly the smile disappeared from her face.

"My extra legs are like a highly sensitive radar system which can detect the vibrations of all living things. Through them I can create a mental picture of the size, shape, and location of everything around me, though I can not see color. When I need to be able to look around quickly or when I am flying, which I don't do often, I telepathically use my raven's eyes as my own. Through his eyes I can see finally see color and I can focus on one thing, unlike when I use my body which requires me to be aware of everything at once...."

Pandora wished the male, who clearly was willing to put up with her, could be a little more forward. He was so stiff, Pandora wished she could bother him until he either bent or finally snapped, for either would be better than his current blandness. She then smirked and thrashed her tail slightly in the water before asking, in a slick, sly voice, "So... why do you even care so much? I mean about... all of this... What is driving your curiosity? Please... do tell..."

Herne, usually one for lies and deceptions, could no longer contain his own feelings for this exquisite female. He had never had a mate before this- not one that had lasted long enough to bare him children. In fact, if he recalled correctly, there had been a female once, but he had eaten her after she began to bore him. He was confident that Pandora would not bore him in the least.

"I have a proposition for you, if I may be so forward." It was now or never. Herne didn't feel nervous. His words came out calmly and steadily, though inside his hormones still raged.

"I wish for you to bear me children. I think together we could raise a clutch of upmost superiority to any others. In exchange for carrying my eggs and helping to care for them, I will give you my protection. I will feed you, and keep you happy. I will give you anything your heart desires. In return, I ask that I be allowed to keep at least one of our offspring to raise. You will not be required to see me anymore, if you so choose, once the babes are hatched. But I implore you- just think of what wonderful children we could have."

It was a business proposition, and probably the oddest one Pandora had ever gotten. But Herne wasn't one to beat around the bush, and he certainly wasn't one to be inclined towards romance. Perhaps Pandora could keep his interest- perhaps not. Herne just wished to see their magnificent spawn become a reality, rather than just a daydream.

Pandora cocked her head and quirked an eyebrow; it was a gesture that Pandora had learned so as to create a look of amused intrigue upon her face. She liked this male, he was amusing and unpredictable! How fun! But... wait.... Pandora was about to laugh and instead turned it into a cough while she shook her head to clear it a bit. "You barely just met me! I barely just met YOU!" Pandora finally let a snicker pass her lips before she continued, "How do you know I wont eat them? You've no idea who I am, what I do... Where I live!"

After a moments pause Pandora giggled and shrugged, "I guess it is a worthy proposition... Worthy enough for my consideration of course..." Pandora leaned in closer and whispered seductively, "You said you would give me anything my heart desires... Prove it... please me and you will have yourself a clutch of powerful youngsters... if you fail... well then... let us just hope you don't..." She smirked, exposing her perfectly white fangs for only moment readopting her usual placid smirk.

Herne briefly considered what he could do to please this creature of darkness and caves. The idea struck him then. It was delightfully twisted, enough so to easily suit his purposes. "I will be but a few minutes," he said before striking off, submerging himself completely in a pond before surfacing a few minutes later in his own territory.

The kill was still plenty fresh, and Herne had not eaten any. It was a treat, something to be reserved for the right occasion. It would have to be very special, and he thought Pandora would warrant that. The meat would be good for her- it was rich, but not too much so. Most importantly, it was a rare find. It was not often that human children got lost in his swamp.

Carrying the prize back to her, holding it delicately away from the water, Herne laid the leg of a human child before the female. "I caught this child but yesterday. The meat is still tender and soft. Is this adequate for you?"

Pandora huffed slightly, but waited patiently for Herne's return. She had hoped to get a little closer to him, seduce him, but he did not seem to catch the drift. Pandora sat back on her haunches, wondering what it would be like to run her hands over a Painter that was so encompassed by water. As Herne returned, Pandora suddenly felt Stark grow agitated and he clacked his beak angrily. It was mere moments before Pandora noticed why.

Herne had brought back a small tidbit of meat, but that couldn't have been why Stark was so agitated. No, Stark was agitated, and Pandora was a little revolted, at the fact that what Herne had brought back was a human child's leg. It was unusual and somewhat grotesque; but Pandora did not recoil. She did let the tip of her tail twitch a couple times, trying to resist the urge to snarl. Instead, she replied in a cool tone, "I may not be sugar and spice and everything nice, but I am not an animal. Only an animal would feed off a creature that was not meant for comsumption... And though I will not ask you to change your ways at all, for you are entitled to eat whatever you wish... I'd prefer if you did not eat sentient beings around me..." Pandora paused for a moment and considered the males actions.

This was obviously normal for him, and he was trying to please her, so Pandora could think of nothing else but to say, "But! Since the thing has already been killed, and the meat is still perfectly good, I see no reason for us to... waste it..." And with that Pandora bent over the leg, and began to tear at it, crunching the bones with an unusual pleasure and slight repulsion at the same time. She was not a weak female that couldn't handle killing and mutilation, but she did not like the idea of killing something that could think for itself. As Pandora finished it off, she straitened and stretched her body out, letting the moonlight wash over her gentle skin which glowed as it reflected the moon.

"I did not kill him. He... drowned." That wasn't strictly true. Herne had lured him into the water in the first place, his cat tails intriguing the young child. But he had not killed him with tooth and claw, and that was what counted, wasn't it? And you ate what you could get. Herne was simply opportunistic.

He studied Pandora as he ate, his fascination growing. She was perfection.

"I will not kill sentient beings if it bothers you so much. I can feed you perfectly well on the meat of common animals. It will be harder for me, but you are worth it." Seduction was not his forte, but he belatedly realized that might be what Pandora had wanted.

He moved his tail towards hers, gently draping the end over hers, continuing to watch her eat, his eyes glowing brightly.

Pandora frowned, not believing a word he said at first. "If you did not kill the boy, than I am the queen of Shiba. I am not a queen, there for you are lying. I do not appreciate lies. No matter what you have done of plan on doing, I expect the truth from you..." Pandora giggled and entwined her tail with Herne's with a playful smile, "Truth makes things more fun... Don't you think? Telling some one exactly what is on your mind, no matter what it is. It adds a bit of unpredictability to life..." Pandora sighed and laughed at Herne's last comment, "I am worth it am I? How sweet..."

((Pandora is a sucker for compliments... ^_^; She loves having her ego booster... XP ))

"Ah, but how do you know that you aren't a queen? For you are a queen in my eyes. The queen of the Painters, the one that they should all be paying tribute to." Herne could lay on the praise if he wanted to, and in this occasion, he very much did.

"But should we take this elsewhere? There are several other places I would very much like to take this..." Herne tightened his grip on Pandora's tail briefly- a quick squeeze, and that was it.

"I have plenty to eat in my home, that is not of this variety.

Pandora laughed and shook her head, "Oh how corny... I am a queen of painters? I sure hope I am not the queen of painters... because then the Painters would be a very sad species indeed..." It was funny really, this male seemed to be a maniacal killer, and then he was a horny male just looking to knock some one up, and now he was actually trying to be sweet. I like unpredictability, but this guy is just unstable! How fun! Pandora giggled mentally and leaned closer to Herne before whispering in response to his last comment, "Food.... is the last thing on my mind at the moment..." She the paused for a moment, and then continued in a soft, sweet voice, "The name's Pandora by the way... not that it's important..."
