Anywho, my tank is completely overrrun by the stuff. I can't figure out what's causing it to grow... I do weekly 5 gallon water changes, run a phosphate removing media ( PO4 was zero last time I checked), and make sure my tank has enough flow. I've been dosing PurpleUp trying to fight it back with coralline algae growth, but that doesn't seem to be helping much. I also have three large emerald crabs that do a pretty good job keeping it trimmed back, but it's still spreading in some areas. I'm at the end of my line.


HELP?

do you use rodi water or something else that was heavily filtered for water changes?

Starting Mg levels were 1300, added one dose of Tech M the other night. I'll test again tomorrow to see how things are going.

Oh, and I tested everything else, and it turned out OK.

Salinity: 1.025
pH: 8.3 (Finally right! heart )
KH: 14
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: below 10
PO4: Not detectable
Iodine: (Who knows? Does anyone here actually test for iodine?)

another thing you could do besides not adding anything extra to your saltwater for water changes is have less light on your tank even by an hour. the algae wont have as much light and wont grow as tall so that maybe a clean up crew could in fact clean it

OR

you could attach a refugeium with macro algae. the macro algae will eat up all the nutrients the nuisance algae needs to grow. the macro algae will also eat up any extra nutrients in the water


we have the garf clean up crew, we added garf grunge, we dont add anything but salt to our water change water and we add NOTHING to top off water and we have a refugium
we have almost no algae even though there are occassional small clumps that crop up here and there because in a home aquarium its just difficult to have it ALL gone ALL the time
