(for those of you who don't know C.E. is a way for those of us with non-judeo-chirstian beliefs to say A.D.)
Just wanted to point out that "AD" is not
judeo-christian, but just Christian. AD stands for "Anno Domini," which is Latin, and means "in the year of our lord." The full phrase is "Anno Domini Nostri Iesu Christi" - "in the year of our lord Jesus Christ." Jews also use the term "CE," just as they use the term "BCE," or "before the common era."

As for an answer to your question:
I feel that people have been so obsessed with violence because violence is a way of obtaining power. As can be seen with packs of animals, the alpha male will fight his way to the top, sometimes killing his opponent. With lions, for example, there will generally be one (maybe two) males leading the pack, and they will have to challenge the former leader of the pack for that right. When they win, the former leader must move on. A sick thing with this is that the two males who won would then kill all of the cubs in the pack and remate the females to ensure that
their genes would continue the line.
What these lions do is similar to what humans do. The battle between them is like a war; area/country A wants to have power over area/country B, or vice versa, so they attack. This can create a cycle of violence, as country B will retaliate, and A will fight back.
Or, (and I'll give you a human example, now) we could look at the "conflict" (I am still of the opinion that it's a
war) between America and Iraq. Al Qaeda felt that America was abusing its power and other peoples around the world, so it attacked. America, taking this as an opportunity to gain more power, turned around and blamed Iraq; this led to violence and bloodshed. For what? Power (which, in this case, may be translated into 'oil and other products').
