...I'm having trouble thinking of something Xena related.
Bardly scrolls, maybe?

I figured we had a thread for video games, and television shows, so why not some good old fashioned paper bound literature?

Discuss your favorite books, authors, or current reads here!

It's hard for me to pick a favorite book, but here are some of my favorite authors.
Gregory Maguire, L. Frank Baum, Beatrix Potter, and Neil Gaiman.

Right now I'm reading "In the forest of forgetting" by Theodora Goss, and "Abarat" by Clive Barker.

Neil Gaiman is definitely one of the best authors on the planet. So is Terry Pratchet. Have you read any of the disc world books?

Have you heard of Jonathan Strange & Mr.Norrel?

My favorites are Alice in Wonderland, The Collective Works of E.A. Poe, Moby-d**k, Eats Shoots & Leaves, and several rare books which names escape me.
Alice in Wonderland is by far my favorite. heart
Everyone reads Edgar Allen Poe for school, but I'm starting to think I'm the only person in the world who reads it just for kicks. xd
I haven't read Moby-d**k since the 6th grade, but I remember how much I loved it. I should read it again sometime. 3nodding
Eats, Shoots & Leaves is a terribly funny book about punctuation. 4laugh
The rare books I mentioned are hand-typed and printed historical records of which there are only one of each. They were all written around the 1600's and 1700's and are kept in a back room of the basement of the Rhode Island Public Library. I fortunately have access, as most of the books contain vast amounts of information on my ancestors (who essentially founded Rhode Island). When I was in Rhode Island the summer before last, I spent two whole days in the back room of the basement, researching with musty old books. It was fantastic. mrgreen

Right now I'm reading the Twilight series. I just started the 4th book. They're actually kinda terrible. It's like reading the sexual fantasy of a 7th grade girl.

I'd suspected as much, so it's nice to have conformation of the fact. I can't stand that kind of stuff. mad

I can't remember if I finished Eats Shoots and Leaves, but I do remember that I thoroughly enjoyed what I did read. 3nodding

It's really well written and super in depth. I recommend it greatly. 3nodding
It's about English Gentlemen magicians, so I've heard people say "Oh, so it's like Harry Potter?" No. Because it's way better.

And I admit... I have gotten into the Twilight saga as well. Shamefully. I've read all but the last. I swear, there must be subliminal messaging. Because I hate the main characters, and the writing is utterly horrid, but somehow I JUST CAN'T STOP!

I need to make a list of books I want to read because that one would definitely be on it. And if anyone had ever read a Neil Gaiman book, they'd know beyond a shadow of a doubt that nothing he could ever write could be anything remotely like Harry Potter. Unless he was doing a parody of it.

I've had a couple other friends say similar things about the Twilight series, so maybe there really is something to that.

Very true, but Jonathan Strange is written by Susannah Clarke. This was her first novel to get published, though.
It's kind of a heavy read, just over 700 pages, I think. Although most of the Twilight books are about 500, I read those in less than 24 hours. But Jonathan Strange took me about a month and a half. You actually have to pay attention to what you're reading, unlike Twilight.

Woops! How'd I get that wrong? ninja

It takes me a long time to read all the way through a book because I'm not really a prolific reader. Unless you count fanfiction. ninja

Ditto. The first 3 books only took me a little over one weekend. Partially because when I pick up a book, I don't like to put it down till I've finished it. But also, like you said, it's not a very heavy read. You don't actually need to think while reading it, so it goes fast. 3nodding

It took me a little more than a month to read them, though. Not necessarily reading them, just waiting for my friend to remember to borrow me the next one.

But hay, since you've read them and all...
Are you "Team Jacob" or "Team Edward"??

I take that as neither?
Unless there's some Switzerland involvement in Breaking Dawn.. But I highly doubt that.
