It was a brisk autumn morning with a little but of frost on Jake's window. It was open a bit and a cold breeze blew in and gently brushed against his cheek waking him up. He sat up still a bit tired and saw that he had forgotten to close his window the night before. He got out of his bed and walked to the window and looked out it while he closed it. He saw all the marvelous colors of the leaves and the autumn beauty and smiled. Jake then closed his eyes and started to pray, "Lord thank you for the beauty of this world and thank you for letting me see it all. Lord I pray that you open my eyes even more and my ears Lord that I can see more of the beauty of this world Lord, God. Please help me get through this day at school and help mom today here at home with Tommy, In your name Amen."
After he had a shower and got dressed he headed down stairs to the kitchen where his dad, mom, and brother all were. He walked in to see a stack of pancakes on the table and smelt the bacon in the microwave, 'Mom is there anything I can help you with?"
"No just putting Tommy in his high chair, if you don't mind. I have to get the juice and bacon then we can start eating," His mom said with a smile.
"Okay," Jake replied walking over to Tommy when he saw a man dressed in all white standing at about 6'9 and a very muscular build. He took two steps back and asked, "What do...you want? Why are you here in our house? I'll give you anything just please don't hurt any of us."
"His dad turned and looked at him with a puzzled look on his face, "Who are you talking to Jake, are you joking around with Tommy?"
Jake turned to his father with a shocked look on his face so surprised that he couldn't see the man, "You don't see that man standing right there," He said turning back around to face the guy how had now disappeared. Jake looked even more confused shocked and confused than before but decided to let it go thinking he was still a little sleepy. He put Tommy in his high chair and sat down just in time for his mom to finish setting the table.
They all were sitting at the table now and Jake's mom started to pray, "Lord bless this food to so we can grow healthy and strong. Lord I pray that we all have a great day and do the brave and right thing to do Lord. I pray that Jake has a good day at school and that his dad has a very good day at work and I thank you for making it able for me to stay home with Tommy so I can teach him good morals and lessons, Amen."
Jake replied with an amen and opened his eyes. He looked at his mom and a female dressed in all white was standing over her with one hand on her shoulder. He gawked at the sight but even more strange was that he was the only one seeing her. He had long blond hair and gorgeous blue eyes that only spoke gentleness. Jake blinked a couple of times and the lady was gone all of a sudden. He shook his head and grabbed his pancakes, bacon, toast, and a glass of juice. He ate that with his family talking about the day before, what they dreamed of, when they hope happens this day, and things they don't want to happen.
When they were done Jake helped his mom with the dishes and then headed out the door with his dad to get a ride. It was just the men every morning after brake-fast so they could talk about manly things like sports, crushes, things like that and some times his dad would add in some dating tips all though he knows Jake wouldn't date someone until he knew they were who God said it to be.
"So hows life Jake?" His dad started the conversation.
"Nothing just things are different for some reason," Jake replied.
"Umm, Jake do I have to do the birds and the bees talk, because I'm not prepared right now," His dad questioned nervously.
"No dad we learned all that in school and I know a lot already because I wanted to make sure I was educated in all the things that could go wrong," Jake replied and saw his dad let out a sigh of relief, "Something other than that is different. I can't put my finger on it but something. I don't know I think I'll ask my Principal about it." He was a student at a private christian academy and loved it there he made some really good friends there and felt safe there.
When his dad had dropped him off he was greeted by some kids he knew but didn't stop to talk, instead he headed straight to his locker where he knew he would see his most best friend and he was right. She was sitting on the ground reading her bible waiting for him to arrive.
"There you are Jake," She said standing up, "where were you? You usually get here fifteen minutes earlier, did something happen."
"Well define something," Jake replied.
"Did you guys fight at your house like you and your mom or dad??" She questioned.
"No nothing like that, I saw this giant muscular man in my house looming over Tommy dressed in all white and then a lady dressed in all white with blond hair and bright blue eyes standing over my mom after she finished praying over brake-fast. But only I could see them no one else in my house could, well I have suspicions about Tommy but he could have been laughing at anything and i do mean anything," Jake explained, "it was really weird Sophie."
"Hmmmmmmmmmmmm," Sophie said looking upwards at an angle.
"That's all you have to say?" Jake said a little frustrated.
"Well its not everyday a friend comes and tells you he thinks he can see angels?" She replied
"True, that's kinda funny though," Jake said opening his locker and pulling some books for his next class.
"Yea, I would love to see angels it would be so beautiful," Sophie replied. She looked at his hair which was unkept and she just had to fix it, "Don't you ever use a mirror, your hair is a mess?"
"No I don't like them, in my mind they are a way for the industry to make people fell ugly and you know me I'm all for high self-confidence," Jake replied as she fixed his hair, "I just forgot to use a brush today."
"Ha you are a character, but that's why we love you," Sophie said with a smile on her face.
"Like look that girl looks like she has low self-confidence because she is constantly..." Jake paused.
"What?" Sophie questioned.
"You don't see that?" He said pointing, "There's a little cake-face, big haired white thing sitting on her shoulder."
"Umm no, OH!" Sophie said loudly, "You don't think that because you can see angels you can see demons as well?"
"Maybe but i always thought they would be dark and disgusting," Jake commented confused.
"Remember in bible studies they said that demons are just angels that fallowed Lucifer instead of God so they would be just as beautiful and majestic as Gods angels," Sophie said looking at him unimpressed.
"What, I wasn't there for that lesson," Jake said with a surprised look on his face and really defensive.
"Wait look at me what do I have, I always wanted to know?" Sophie questioned.
Jake looked at her and stared, "I don't see anything, do you think I should go and talk to her, I feel I should but I'm not sure?"
"YES, always fallow that feeling dumbo Pastor John says to always fallow it so go do it," Sophie replied.
"Okay," Jake said shrugging his style then looked back, "You pay to much attention, haha"
"You don't pay enough now go," Sophie retaliated.
Jake walked up ti the girl how had now closed her hand held mirror and was pulling out her books. He walked up behind her and tapped her on the shoulder, "Umm hey, this is going to sound totally random but you look beautiful with out that make-up all over your face."
She turned around and looked even more beautiful than he thought. "You really think so?" She questioned.
"Yes, here," Jake said pulling out a clothe and gave it to her, "Wipe off your make-up and I'll prove it. But wait let me take a picture first if its alright?"
"Yea sure," She said shyly.
Jake took out his digital camera and took a picture of a before then handed the clothe over for her to wipe off the make up. She took it nervously and slowly wiped off the make up. Jake took another picture and then looked at her in the face, "Yea in my opinion you look a lot better," then he showed her.
She looked at both the pictures carefully and saw that with the make-up on it made her look fake and like a cake-face and with it off she could see all her good characteristics. She looked up at him and smiled, "My name is Candice, thanks for showing me that, what class do you have right now?"
"I'm Jake and my friend over there is Sophie," They both looked over as Sophie was waving fanatically. They laughed and then looked back at each other, "I'm actually in your class right now, English right?"
"Yea," Candice replied and smiled. They both walked towards Sophie when Jake saw a little white creature sitting on her shoulder. It was female because of the long green hair and how it was styled. When the two got closer Jake noticed little green wings on its back and the word envy carved into its back in green ink. He tilted his head when he looked at Sophie and smiled, "No need, I'm just walking her to class, she's in English with us."
Sophie propped up and looked around, "Who are you talking to?"
"You silly, envy gave you away," Jake spoke before he realized what he had said, "Uh... I mean your eyes always show what your feeling Sophie remember."
Sophie looked surprise but then remembered what they just talked about, "Right haha...uh...lets go before we're late."
On there way to class Jake saw many different kinds and sized of demons and angels surrounding different people, some he thought would never had to deal with the situation or have that big of an angel. When they walked into English Jake took an apple out of his bag and put it on the teachers desk like he always did and sat beside Candice and Sophie once and a while looking over at Candice.
The teacher walked into the room with about three angels fallowing her. Jake gasped and his jaw dropped. Sophie leaned over, "What, whats wrong?"
"Nothing, she just has three angels fallowing her its sweet," Ha whispered back.
"Okay class get out your presentations that you had to do for homework. We'll be presenting today," The teacher said writing her name in the top left corner of the chock board, Mrs. Ernsuvan.
Each student went up when they were called and she would write down things on a piece of paper and when the last person sat down from presenting the bell rang ending the class, "Okay thank you guys see you tomorrow."
"Thank you Mrs. Ernsuvan," The class chimed.
As the three walked out of class Jake remembered he forgot his book in the class room so he went back to get it while the other two went back to the lockers. As he walked in the class he found Mrs. Ernsuvan sobbing at her desk. He didn't know what to do except stair. He went to the desk he sat in and go the book when he noticed that she was now looking at him.
"Yes Jake did you need something?" She questioned.
"No I just forgot my book." He replied heading for the door then stopped. He knew he had to ask, "Why were you crying just a few seconds ago?"
"If you must know my husband is in the army and he was sent over seas to fight, and I'm so afraid for his life I don't know what to expect," She told him.
"Well then lets pray," Jake replied, "Lord I pray that Mr. Ernsuvan is safe and taken good care of over seas. I pray for angels to cover him and your grace to bless him and I also pray for Mrs. Ernsuvan seeing as she's all alone here worried sick. I know you have already blessed her with three special angels but give her more so that she has more hope and comfort when she sits at home alone. Lord I pray for courage and bravery, that if, heavens forbid, something happened to him she would be able to carry on so that her students can learn from example. I pray for a peaceful day for her and that she can function properly. Amen."
Mrs. Ernsuvan looked at Jake touched that he would do something like that out of the blue. She opened her desk drawer and pulled out a Twix chocolate bar, "I know its not much but here take this, your a good student and you deserve it."
"No Mrs. Ernsuvan, I can't accept that I didn't do this because i was being good, God put it on my heart and has shown me you needed prayer so I did what any Christian would do, obey," Jake replied naively.
"No Jake not a lot of Christians do that, a lot try to ignore and run so you do deserve it and your a brave soul, keep it up," She said handing him the chocolate bar not accepting a no.
Jake took it smiled and left to his locker. When he got there he saw Sophie and Candice talking and smiling and he also saw that envy was no longer on her shoulder. He walked up to the with a smile and handed over the chocolate bar, "Here, you two have it, I'm not really that hungry."
"What took you so long i thought you went just for your book?" Candice inquired.
"Lets say that Mrs. Ernsuvan is going to be happier for a little while longer," He replied with a smile. "Okay, what classes do we all have?"
"Bible with you," replied Sophie.
"Chemistry," Replied Candice.
"Okay, so meet here after lunch?" Jake questioned again.
"Sure," they said at the same time, then looked at each other and laughed.
The bell rang signifying the end of class and Jake and Sophie walked out making sure they had everything this time, they did. They walked down the hall and met Candice at their locker with her lunch ready. Jake and Sophie opened their locker and put their books away and pulled out their bagged lunches that they're moms had prepared. Heading down to the cafeteria Jake saw a friend sitting in the corner alone, "You guys go ahead I just need to see something." The two looked confuse but did as told instead of asking questions. They thought it would be better to leave it and it meant more time for them to get to know each other. Jake smiled at them then went to see what was wrong with his friend.
"Hey Charly, whats wrong buddy things going ok?" He questioned.
Charly looked up his face red with anger and tears. He didn't say anything but he when Jake looked down at him he saw another white thing with red wings and the word wrath carved into its left arm except this one was the size of a small child not some little dorky looking shoulder thing you see in cartoons. "Kay Charly, you're scaring me whats wrong?" Jake asked again.
"My dad left again but for good and mom started to drink again. It gets me so angry I just want to punch something which I already did and broke my knuckles which made me more mad and now your here pestering me wanting to know whats wrong when its obviously none of your business," Charly replied harshly.
"Charly, I'm one of your good friends I just want to help but sorry if you going to act like that I'll leave you alone," Jake replied and started to walk off.
"Wait, I'm sorry I shouldn't have snapped at you of all people. Its just that dad did what he did and mom and everything piling up like it is right now, I'm just a mess," He apologized.
"No worried but do you wanna pray about it?" Jake questioned.
"I guess if you think it'll help," Charly said skeptically.
"Kay, Lord I pray for Charly, that he would be able to channel his anger into something constructive and that these things that happened at home would pass and if he needs a place to go that that would be available for him so he could spend one on one time with you and talk about what he's feeling with you because Lord we all know you understand and want to help and all we have to do is ask for it. Lord I'm asking now that you help Charly with his fight with wrath and temptation so that he can function today properly, in you name Amen." Jake prayed and then looked around. Wrath was still there but smaller and less powerful looking. A job well done he thought to himself, that's four people with in what the first half of the day, I'm good.
"Thanks," Charly said but still sat where he did, "I'm just going to think on what you prayed for."
"No problem," Jake replied. He walked back to the caf and joined Candice and Sophie.
