So the first week of Febuary is the beginning of drm major tryout for my school. I want to be drum major, but I also want to march my senior year, so I am not sure exactlly what to do. What do you think I should do, is drum major worth it or should I stick with marching? What is your opinion.

I'm in the same boat your are. I'm a junior and I'm trying out. My interview was last night and I conducted this morning...it ruined my day because I was too stupid to figure out that the Star Spangled Banner was in 3/4 not 4/4 crying Just that little mistake!
I went against one other girl. Then we have 3 sophmores trying out and their interview was today.
I've been back and forth about this. Did research and thought what the band and I thought about the DM and I kept asking if I can do it or if I even wanted to do it. I feel that I'm the one that needs to make the music. I believe my home is the field. But leading a band to a goal would be worth it.
One of my interview Qs was "What was the most important thing about the marching band?" I said the learning experiance. Then it got to a discussion about kids that don't feel the passion and just don't care. I told my DM and band director that if I was drum major and there was a kid that was just giving me the worst time and was trying to make it horrible for everyone I wouldn't let it bring me down. Then I'd look at the kid in the corner. The one that practices until their lips or arms are sore. The kids that actualy have the passion to do this...then I would think..."I could do this for them."
If I don't make it I won't be down about it. I'm happy just being on the field, if I do make it I would be scared and feel alot of pressure but if I could make it through this, passing my goals of working on my social, musical, and problem solving skills....it will be worth it.
