Return of the Demon World About three years ago, Sensui, with the help of his right-hand companion and his many minions, opened the barrier that guarded the human world from level A and level S demons; they had proved to be strong and had nearly cost Yusuke, and the rest of the world their lives. But, although the challenge was difficult, Yusuke and his companions were able to defeat the two men after a long struggle, before replacing the barrier and sealing the strong demons back where they belonged. After the following year, the heroes had absolutely cleansed Japan of any little demon.
Japan was finally peaceful again. Yusuke continued to work at his successful ramen shop, engaging the following year to Kaiko. Kuwabara continued with his junior high studies and made it to that highschool he'd worked so hard to get to. Kurama went back home to his mother, slowly getting to know his new father, while Hiei wandered about, still keeping his relation to Yukina a secret.
Three years of peace past for the heroes, but it was to be expected that the peace wouldn't last for long. Slowly but surely, the weaker demons were squeezing their way through the barrier once more, and returning chaos to Japan. Which lead Koenma to rely on his group of detectives while he observed piles of reports that soon filed his desk.

The day hadn't been any different than others; He spoke to his mother and step-father before heading off to highschool with Kuwabara for a couple of hours, and now he was strolling through the city streets. He would part ways with Kuwabara --Since Kuwabara took his studies more seriously these days, and bragged about how much he was actually able to achieve when he put his mind to it.
Then Kurama headed down another street, opposite of Kuwabara's, to visit Yusuke's ramen shop. But to his surprise, the ramen shop was still labeled "CLOSED" like it was when he'd walked past it this morning. The food, the dishes, everything that was usually there was gone; even Kurama's abnormally keen sense of smell could not detect even a single scent of cooked ramen around the stand. Which meant he'd never opened the shop today, and he was nowhere to be seen. It was a rare occasion that Yusuke didn't come to his stand to cook; not only because he enjoyed it, but also because he liked getting money. The facts all added to the weird, uneasy feeling Kurama had had all day.
He was worried, and that paranoid feeling kept itching at his mind, but he decided that his friend would call him if there was a problem. So he continued his walk toward the park where he usually sat under a tree and studied his schoolwork.

Hiei was waiting next to Karama's tree. He had been watching and observing Kurama's daily habits for a few days now, searching for the best time to show himself. "'Bout time you got here. I have other things to do than stand in a playground waiting for you all day. It seems like the longer you live in the human world, the slower you get." This was one of hiei's normal greetings for Kurama, even before they had parted ways. This was no different, except for the way he was dressed. He figured his usuall attire would draw a little more attention than he would like at the moment, so he had changed into a pair of dark bluejeans and an American basketball t-shirt. He quickly found that the latter was not the best choice for descreteness in Japan, and put a baggy hoodie on over it. "I assume you've already noticed Yusuke's absence. You think Koenma had a need for him?"

But it was true, the many years that he lived a human was slowly beginning to dull his abilities. He'd not only heard this from Hiei, but from Yomi and many others that knew him in the past. In the amount of time he'd lived in this world, he'd learned to be less cautious, and he learned that he didn't need to be as keen about everything. The people were nice, friendly, they followed their routines from day to day, and most of them were completely harmless.
He frowned at the last comment and gave a slight shrug of the shoulders before carefully setting his backpack against the tall tree he was now standing under. Kurama's eyes narrowed worriedly, eyebrows bending in a puzzled manner, " To be honest, I am not quite sure. There wasn't a scent of the food around the stand, and not a single mess... " He paused, a realization came to him, " Something must have happened to the barrier. What other reason would Koenma have to call for Yusuke in such short notice? "

"I don't know. I'm really only here cause I heard Yusuke missed a day, figured that Koenma had a job for him. And you know me, big team player." Hiei stood in front of Kurama continuously glancing back over his shoulder as if expetcing something. "Ya think he might need a little assistance with that?"
<.....Writers block. We need more peoples. At least Yusuke or something.....>

Despite the situation, a smile came to Kurama's face and he gave a faint chuckle before a mocking, surprised expression spread across his face, " Hiei actually wants to help, without being told to?! Are you on some new medication I should worry about?! " He teased. But it really was a rare occasion when Hiei offered to help people; ever since Kurama had known him, Hiei had only cared about his own well being.

Hiei stopped looking around and glared at Kurama. "I'm not wanting to help. I'm bored alright? Killing things does get kinda boring when it takes less than a few seconds. Besides, if Urimeshi gets himself killed, I won't get my rematch."

(( XDD!! Your icon made water shoot out my nose! ))
" Sure, " Kurama continued to tease, starting to laugh now, " Are you sure that's what it is? " He put a hand on his hip, continuing to mock lecture him, " We're just your excuse to fight? " He was incredibly amused right now, and his grin showed it. He hadn't seen Hiei for a long time, so it was nice to get to mess around with him. It was fun to mess with Hiei, because he always got frustrated and argued back irritatedly. Besides, there was no use in worrying about Yusuke because there was no way to contact him. The only way they could help was if Yusuke contacted them.
The ex-demon grinned and sat against the tree, finding no need to stand about and be cautious in this world, " So, what have you been up to all this time? "

"Nothing." Hiei said, sitting down on the grass in front of Kurama. "Stuff. You? I can't believe that you just went along with your daily life, going to school and that junk." < Stupid dialog. You would not KNOW how bad my writers block is getting these days.... which is really bad since i'm trying to write my english paper....>

A smile that was almost smirk- like appeared on Kurama's face; it was one of those smiles that seemed to mock you, but it was obvious that it was also playful, " You make it seem like it's a bad thing, " he commented, " It's actually interesting, it's peaceful, and people don't try to kill you every few moments... It's something you should try sometime Hiei. " The comment was an obvious tease; Hiei was a very violent person, and in all honesty, Kurama couldn't see Hiei ever stop killing. Hiei may be getting better, and he may only be killing bad people and bad demons, but it was obvious that his friend still enjoyed killing, whether for good or for bad.
Although, Kurama had at one time been a demon too, so he understood the unusual lust for blood-spill from time to time. He had never been as bad as Hiei, but there were times he could remember that his killing hadn't been out of strategy. Although his demon self was known for complex strategies and always being one step ahead of the enemy, and he had seemed pretty calm, collected and seemed to have good judgement, there were still times were he lost himself.
A good example of that were times that he was angry. One thing that everyone that knew him knew, was to never enrage him. Simply because he is very strategic, he has control of nature, so any plant around his enemies could be used against them, and he is also incredibly strong. Not even Hiei had dared to ever get on his bad side, and that was probably one of the reasons that Hiei had agreed to join Koenma's team, because Hiei knew being on the opposite side of Kurama would not be a good thing.

Yusuke blinks, looking at Kurama and Hiei with a stupid smile on his face, staring at Hiei for a second. "Uh... hi?" It was clear that Yusuke had overheard their conversation. "I haven't been gone all that long, have I? Trust me.. what I went through was far worse than any job Koenma could have given me.." Yusuke sighed

Kurama blinked and his face showed an expression of surprise; he wasn't startled by Yusuke's voice, but more so by the suddenness that Yusuke had come to be beside he and Hiei, and how he had not sensed Yusuke before. Indeed, his friend was improving; because not too long ago Kurama could have easily sensed Yusuke approaching from perhaps a mile away. The teen blinked out of curiosity, " That long..? Meaning you were out somewhere, " Kurama stated, his eyes calm despite the actual seriousness of this discussion, " Where were you? " If Koenma hadn't sent Yusuke on a mission, and if Yusuke was as tired and as stressed out as he looked, then something terrible must have happened. Keen and curious as ever, the ex-demon stared calmly at his friend, expecting to be answered, " Was it the demon barrier? " That was the only situation that Kurama could think of that would stress Yusuke out so much. That, and Yusuke wasn't known to be easily bothered.

Demonic-san53 Hiei looked up when Kurama mentioned the barrier. He wanted to see Yusuke's reaction, in case he was planning on lying to keep the two of them out of trouble. "Kurama, he just said that Koenma didn't send him. If the barrier was breached again it would be Koenma that told Yusuke." Hiei remembered how aggitated Yusuke was during the fight over the barrier the first time, but the spirit detective didn't seem to be stressed or angry enough for whatever he was doing to have something to do with the barrier. Sensui was gone, but there were always demons trying to get through to the human world anyway, Hiei should know, he had been one of them a few months ago; though not for the same reasons as others.
