So while I was in my World History class a few weeks ago, we were reading about Buddhism. I had been incredibly bored, but my attention had been caught when I saw a very famous FF summon in the text. Aparrently, Shiva was considered the "god of the dance" in Buddhist religion and I'd had no idea!
Another suprise came when we read about the Aztecs this last week. The Aztecs believed in Quetzalcoatl, another summon from FFVIII.
So here's my question to you all: Should I write an essay on the origins of the FF summons? Would you read it?
*Note: I'd been pondering this thoght for some time now, and I saw that there was a contest about the Mages. This idea isn't related to the Essay contest in no way whatsoever.*

✿NarcissusOfDeath ❧❧ Most of the summons are from legends and history. Odin, Hades, Phoenix, Shiva (who is a man by the way, and he is known as the supreme one, but there is a dance named 'The Dance of Shiva), Siren, Diablo, Alexander (I think that summon is named after Alexander the Great) and many more. Pay closer attention to class and you might even be able to see where the names of the character, items, and events comes from (ex: Terra, Gaia, Ether, Blitz).
(Here's something for Final Fantasy IX fans: Zidane Tribal possibly means King of the Gypsies.) ~Narcissus of Death ✿

But that doesn't answer my question... Should I write one or not?

✿NarcissusOfDeath ❧❧ That is all up to you. I know I am not being helpful, but I don't want to discourage or encourage you to do something you may not like. All I can say is look up the many summons in every game. How deep are you willing to write the essay, and how accurate will it be?
Though if you do decide to make one, you know that I am at least interested in what it is you have to write. Whatever your choice maybe, I will be prepared. ~Narcissus of Death ✿ ✿NarcissusOfDeath ❧

not as detailed as Narcissus, but i would like to read it, i already knew that several of the summons are based off of gods from different religions, and i would like to know about the ones that i don't know about. I would definately read the essay if you wrote it! 3nodding

Mm, I'd always heard destroyer too. Maybe Buddhist Shiva is different from Hindu Shiva? I'm no good with that kind of thing. I guess that's why this essay would be a good idea, then. I do personally think it sounds awesome. There was a thread on the guild a long time ago about Final Fantasy mythology connections, but it disappeared.

Brahma is the Creator Vishnu is the Preserver Shiva is the Destroyer
The manifestation of the dancing Shiva is called the Nataraja, the lord of the dance, and is generally shown dancing upon the demon of ignorance.
