So yesterday I went to buy some new strings for my guitar because the strings it has currently are kind of lousy.
Anyway, the guy at the store starts going into this whole song and dance about how Elixirs are awesome and how you can't go wrong with them (I have used Elixirs and have no opinion on them whatsoever), and starts preaching about how coated strings are better than uncoated strings.
Uhm... I'd just asked for some uncoated D'Addarios...
So, anyway, what do you think of people who start being know-it-all? Do you try to shut them up? Do you ignore them? Let's discuss.
(Oh, and while we're at it, does anyone have any good acoustic guitar string suggestions? No Martins, please)

(Oh, and while we're at it, does anyone have any good acoustic guitar string suggestions? No Martins, please) Lol, i sometimes go to guitar center and get suggestions on coated strings. I mean the guys trying to be helpful and all and sometimes i do go with the coated strings. But i don't know...curently i have elixer's on my electric to try it out...never tried it on acoustic. Emp or w/e its called seem like better coated strings. I'd say martin but if your not gonna do martin try dunlop? They have signature strings from Zakk Wylde...just check it out.

I only hate know-it-alls if they're being arrogant or if they talk down to me. My teacher Aaron knows far more than I do, but he doesn't parade it in front of my face every chance he gets.

Protip: the guy probably just wanted you to buy them because they're more expensive. I stick with regular GHS strings.

I've used elixirs on acoustic and electric and they have their own sound. They are a great set of strings to have on a guitar you don't play very often (like my acoustic). Even better are the Ernie Ball Coated Slinkies. they have a much more natural feel and sound than elixirs.

As of right now, i've got Ernie Ball Slinkies on them. I'm gonna go back and try some Skull strings again though. I don't remember what they were like to play on, but I remember they had a good tone, adn lasted a long time.

look at it this way:
I've been playing and cleaning the same DR strings for months and they feel worn in and sound better than my old co-guitarist's elixirs that he changes every month.

I use Elixirs, and in my opinion you save a bunch of money, not that i'm a miser or anything, but i like having a pretty penny in my wallet. (short version of the rant below)
I used to try out every brand of strings From Guitarcenter, Ernie Ball, D'adario, Some expiremental coated strings called Black Diamond, GHS, you name it, and I have found that Elixirs and DR strings are the best in tone, durability, versatility, and playability (smoothness). Which, really, are the main goals of string manufacturers. Both strings lasted me around three months with minimal wear and tear (which is important because grimy strings feel horrible on the hands stressed ), and i saved about five bucks because i would usually spend five bucks a month on uncoated strings.
P.S. The new Ernie Ball Titanium/Coated strings are bull s**t. If you're going to spend ten bucks on an excellent long lasting pair of strings, get Elixirs.
Disclaimer: This is only an opinion! Get over yourselves and admit defeat sometimes.

Chromatic-Death MAKQ go for cheap . thats what i say . Your gonna change 'em anyway . Cheap = Low quality Going cheap makes you spend more in the end. not really , if you take care of them . Plus not everything is low quality if its cheap , plus if you got really picky with strings your just being a jerk about your guitar . Just have some fun , they're gonna snap any way .

that's funny. i am one of those guys but only if people ask me a question about it, i'm not trying to force my beliefs on anyone. i'm not mormon. whee (mormon joke!) wahmbulance but as for choice in strings for acoustic, i prefer elixers mainly for tone and how long they last. but they are kind of expensive. otherwise i just go with darrios or martins..and i realize you said don't suggest martins..but that's mine and clapton's choice. (clapton joke!) wahmbulance
