The air was humid on during this hot afternoon. The sun was glimmering down on the swamp water as the young kimeti splashed about. There was some wet red mud and a couple berry bushes. Water and Lost light played by the water and then rested next to a sweet berry bush and began to eat. Lost Light watched as the other kimeti played but waited until one joined him by the bush.

Water tapped on Lost Lights leg to show him someone was approaching. Lost Lights ears went flying up and he turned his head. There was a bright young fillie with pink eyes and a green stripped hide. He looked at her and wagged his tail. Then he stuck his nose in the red mud and wiped it across her chest.Water stood behind Lost Light and waited cautiously. Lost Light looked at Fierce fireflies reaction to see if she approved of his playfulness.

Water giggled as he saw the mud on Lost Light and on Fierce. Water took some mud with his paws and painted swirleys on both of the kimetis. Then Lost Light bit of a small strand of berries and pushed them towards Fierce. Water took them and started eating. Lost Light laughed and rolled over getting mud on his dry back. Looking upsidedown at Fierce Lost Light smiled and Water chuckled.

Lost Light shivered as the mud was painted on his belly. He flipped over again back to kneeling. He moved over a bit so the suns warmth could warm him. Water brought some berries over and sat by Lost Lights thigh. Lost Light let out a warm song that was smooth and soft singing about the sun and the swamp. He looked over at Fierce who was walking over to him and nodded her to sit by him and watch the beautiful cranes and other animals play around by the water. Lost Light continued his singing while looking from the swamp to Fierce.

Water who doesn't have that great of a voice moved to the waters edge to splash about.Lost Light faded out of song and began speaking with Fierce. He told her that she could call him Flicker and smiled. His tail was swaying back and forth slowly as he laid next to his friend. She was the first kimeti in matope who he felt comfortable giving his common name to. Lost Light was very happy, with mud on his back and the sun in his eyes. He asked Fierce if she wanted to go and play in the water.

Flicker stood up and pranced into the water. He put his head under and bit a small patch of weeds. He swallowed and smile at Fierce. He liked her shorter name it made her sound dangerous. He wailed in the water splashing about. The mud slid of his back as water floated by him, Water went by the shallow water and pulled Fierces leg.

Her bright pink eyes were looking at Flicker and he smiled. He looked up and saw the sun setting. He played with Fierce splashing and nudging about as he saw a school of large fish swimming by Water. Water lept out of the water and swam to shore. Flicker chuckled, it was getting dark and Water was getting tired. Flicker looked at Fierce and asked her if she wanted to have some more berries. He swam to shore and shook the water off his body. Fierce followed him and they sat down next to a berry bush, this time further away from the water. Flicker was afraid of water after dark as most kimeti are, he feared crocodiles that lurked the swamp waters edges at night more than anything. He didn't want to show his fear so he kept chuckling and playing with Fierce by the bush.

As the fogged rolled in over the swamp the two kimeti sat happily enjoying their snack. Flicker looked at Fierce and smiled. He asked her if she had ever herd about the legend of Shiver and how she blesses those who have lost loved ones to the swamp crocodiles. He asked in a happy tone excited to tell his friend about the ghost story an old buck had passed down to him. He waited for Fierce to respond, he was filled with so much happiness because he really like this story. He wanted all the kimetis to know about it.
