VS.
Okay, so I'm not quite sure if what I'm going to discuss here is related to the Square-Enix fusion, or just Square in general... But I'm going to go for it and see if I get any good answers anyway.
Starting off, I'd like to say that I don't disapprove of Square-Enix, but I'm not quite sure how some things have come to occur here. How is it affecting other fans, I wonder?
I've noticed how things as far as storyline, character development, and music have dive bombed themselves since Squaresoft and Enix had that blatantly bastardized love-child; Not to mention the new battle systems.
On the other hand, things like the graphics, merchandise, and the voice acting have gotten a lot better. A LOT better. I'm pretty happy with the fact that the newer Final Fantasy versions have some of the best graphics in any of the video games I've seen thus far. (FFXIII, anyone?)
Square-Enix hasn't REALLY gotten the chance to 'WOW' us yet, so I'm still kind of unsure of my standpoint on this topic.
:Discuss:
How much has Squaresoft changed since the fusion with Square-enix? Do you like this change or not?
What do you think about the battle systems in the newer games?
Lastly, what are your opinions on the various things that have differed since the partnership; Such as the merch, music, graphics, characters, and voice overs?

Hm, well... A lot of it isn't affected so much my the merger so much as the individuals. For example, I thought the last game with really good music was IX, but X came out before they before Square-Enix. X is, however, they first one in which Nobuo didn't compose most of the music.
Then there's graphics, which have undoubtably just become progressively better as time goes on. The reason the Squenix games have better graphics is just because they're newer.
With voice acting, it's tough to say, because the only Squaresoft Final Fantasy with voices at all is X, and you can't really judge with just one.
Now, I've read that Nobuo has been doing less of the Final Fantasy work because he wants to do other things, so I'd assume that has nothing to do with the merge. I don't actually know what has changed directly because of it, staff-wise, so I can't honestly say which changes in trends were caused by it. I do, in general, definitely prefer Square games, but on the other hand, XIII looks awesome.
Nice topic, by the way.

I have to agree with many of the things stated here. First off, I do miss Squaresoft. Often times when I'm playing games such as Parasite Eve or FFVIII I look back on Squaresoft and feel that my involvement in the plot was much more avid then. Although some of the newer games have good story devices, I'd say I appreciate the old games more. Also, the character design HAS become less interesting in my opinion. Of course this may have more to do with Tetsuya Nomura than Enix.
But yes, Enix did make great advancements in graphics. The newer battle systems are questionable and subject to interpretation but they have made some interesting changes.
There are negatives and positives to both sides but you can't say we don't at least miss the old FF's crying And yes, I agree with Ravenwolf, great topic!

Ravenwolf: That's exactly what I thought about a few of the subjects. (Particularly about X's voices and Nobou's recent turnover.) I just didn't want to complicate the thread anymore than it HAD been. xD
Aya_Teien: You just worded what I was trying to say perfectly. My English is horrible, so I often have to wait until someone else can express my thoughts on a topic.
Thank you both for your input and compliments. ;D

The only thing I can really say is that since the merger, I haven't really been as interested in the games. I really doubt it has anything to do with the merger, mostly just the way they decided to take FFXII and the other knick knacks they've came out with since.
Also, since I no longer own a console other than my modded original xbox, I really can't enjoy the newest games.
Whenever I get "not lazy", which may not happen anytime soon, I'll probably put FFV-IX on my xbox.

I didn't mind the merger, but I wish there was more crossovers between the two companies trademark games. For example: - Chocobos & moogles in dragon quest, or maybe the Valkyries like Lenneth, Hrist, & Silmeria appearing in FF games, plus Lezard Valeth can be a villain and/or optional boss in nearly every RPG franchise they have. And they should officially change the name to Squenix.

I'd sort of prefer they be kept separate, though I can't really say why. As for Squenix? Yes. Yes they should.
