Our band program was trash 2 years ago now we've managed to build it up... well slightly. The only problem is its falling into chaos again. At first this year started out strong. New people amazing music and willing freshman.

After some time though we started lagging. We didnt want to memerize our music and our band director became noticably more strict.

A flute quit no big deal
then another flute and a mellophone section leader what the heck
now the latest person is our own drum major what the ******** have even considered quitting
So is their anthing that can be done to save this are are we a dying fish?

Your drum major quit? That's silly. A good drum major should know they should never quit. How big is your band right now? I'm assuming you're talking about your marching band, right? What's your concert band like? How many people are there?

What I would suggest is to get the rest of the band members together. Try to get them all to work on memorizing their music and recovering from this. Get a new drum major, someone who is above all else, a good, enthusiastic leader (and hopefully a decent conductor, although at your band's current state, I'd go for leadership first). If you guys have a hard time getting a show together this year, concentrate on what you can do - basics, memorizing music, and eventually getting a song on the field. Concentrate on keeping current members. In the spring, work on recruiting new marchers, emphasizing that marching band is fun, but not always easy - that memorization is expected, but that if people come to class each day, that nothing is too difficult. Good luck with this. Don't quit yet - try to do what you can to save your band. Only quit if the entire band quits, which hopefully won't happen.

Exactly. You quitting won't make things any better. We're going through a similar thing, but it is due to the director. Our old director left for a bigger pay check and the new guys SUCKS. NO ONE likes him and we're putting super easy shows on the field. But I'm just trying to stick it out. A band is like the stock market. It goes up and down. You're just in a regression.

our band is havin problems too

my freshman year was AMAZING, never got first, but never got less than 4th either

then our director left for another skool (after he told us he was goin back to skool for a bachelors degree), and so we got a female band director last year...

everybody hated her and the year just sucked in general, we got last place eevry competition cept for championships where we got second to last...

and i need to mention that very few people are paying the band fees...

so now its my junior year, we have ANOTHER band director (female, our assitant bd from my freshman year), and the band is in debt...our rival skools band offered to buy us our field show this year....that was pretty cool of them...

lets jsut hope we can raise enough money this year so my senior year doesnt suck....

and heres a link to a short vid of us from last year during a parade, were playing part of our field show at the that start of the vid, it end with our skool fight song, im the only bass drum there that day...

Hoover band

EDIT: oh and notice how some of us arent in step...*rolls eyes*
