Hey guys, I just wanted some input on clothes you really liked, but couldn't wear because it wasn't modest enough (it was to form-fitting, showed to much skin, etc...) I want to open my own clothes store that sells modest clothing, and I want to take clothes that we couldn't usually wear and change it so it fits our needs.

Pictures of the clothes would be appreciated, if possible.

Let's see. I had this really cute top I bought from old navy. Then when I got home, I realized it was see though. It actually looked good on me and now I'm still depressed. Old Navy...another store I can't go in. I hate summer shopping.

Wear it over another shirt for a layered look. I get a lot of perfectly acceptable clothing at Old Navy, because I don't mind buying a colorful tank top with a higher neckline to put under a white blouse with longer sleeves and a lower neckline. Be creative, and you can always find something modest to wear.

I do that a lot. Layering is good, even when people are shocked in the summertime. Then again, I also wear jeans in the summer when it is 95 degrees out.

I know what you mean. Personally I wear the lightest long-sleeved T-shirts I can, usually from Hanes (especially the Featherweight versions) and the Gap. (Sorry I can't link to the page right now, but they're updating their site. Just go to http://www.gap.com and search for women's long-sleeved Tees.

Those Hanes look good and look really cheap (yeah, I am broke...so getting the ones under 10 dollars...I need to get a job).

Hey, I have a job, and I still buy the Hanes. Why? Because if I buy cheaper stuff that's just as good as the expensive stuff (and it is, I assure you, having a few of each), I can buy MORE of the cheaper stuff. I can have ten shirts instead of six, and that's better. Less is more? Huh, I don't THINK so, Scooter! wink

Since college, I've been wearing a lot of button-up shirts, plain khaki or black skirts, plain flats or loafers -- clothes that look suspiciously like modern school uniforms, frankly. And now, predictably, I'm bored with this. Time for an update!

I found a fantastic website that has helped me greatly in determining where I want to take my fashion wardrobe. Check it out.

The site was created by and for Muslimas, but there are some tips that will help out non-Muslims too. In fact, all of them will work for Jews and for Christians outside the Plain communities -- just tie the scarf in a slightly different way to conform to your community's standards, tastes, or signals.

I have an easy solution to immodest tops! Wear a more modest undershirt. It always works for me and I can wear a lot of the fashions that otherwise would be inappropriate!

I just got a job! I can afford things now! I still need to pay off that science textbook I lost. It really sucks. I'm halfway there.

layering is always great but once in a while at marshalls and wal-mart you can find really nice modest clothing you just have to look. a popular thing i noticed in israel is if you have a dress that sto short (like right abouve the knees) you can just wear a skirt under it to make it more tznius. a person can find many tznius outfits in any store as long as things arent to tight.

i heard some of the religious stores that are suppose to sell only modest clothing arent actually tznius since some things might cling to tightly or something else that is mot so obvious and dont expect to be a problem in a store like that.
