The door opens into a large room filled with cardboard boxes. The only things visible in the midst of all the mess are two doors in the far wall, an empty fireplace and a comfortable-looking blue sofa, on which a Charpia is sleeping, a beetle balanced precariously on her nose.

"This is Barbatos. You know how they say that if you go to the end of a rainbow, you'll find a pot of gold? Of course, I never used to believe that kind of stuff, but one day when I was out for a walk, the sky seemed to be changing colour around me. I'm not kidding! Believe it or not, I was walking
through a rainbow. It got lower and lower, and then there was the end. And sitting there, right in front of me, was a pot of gold. Well, I say a pot, it was more of a cauldron! There was enough in there to buy this place, and more. But that wasn't all. There was a little stripy bag on top of the pile. When I picked it up, it
wriggled. I didn't know what to do with it, so I just left it on the table. I almost forgot about it, to be honest. Then out popped this little lady! She's been with me ever since. Led me to this island, in fact. She's an adventurous one, and friendly. Not too good around snakes or cows, though."
