Many people want to know what's up with the whole affinity thing. Well, basically, affinities dictate what bonuses you get from supports. They're different for each game. And the personality and meaning of a characters name gives a hint as to what their affinity is. EX: Lucius= light. Lucius' affinity= light. But I want to know as much as I can about affinities. Also, how does one figure out what their own affinity would be? I heard that it depends on the month in which you were born.

I was kinda surprised people didn't know about affinities. There's plenty of information on them. Seek and ye shall find.
For the FE7 affinities, when you put in your tactition's data it determines affinity by month. But there isn't any earth or heaven affinity that way.
My affinity is ice going by month.

I found a list of affinities online! I was gonna look it up in the game, but I got lazy. x3
January: Light
February: Ice
March: Wind
April: Thunder
May: Wind
June: Anima
July: Fire
August: Dark
September: Fire
October: Anima
November: Ice
December: Thunder
That being said, I'm Thunder, but just barely, since my birthday's the last day of April. ^^
Also, in FE7, if you and a unit have the same affinity, they get a little stat boost. (For example, since Erk and Serra are Thunder, they tend to do a little better if I put my real birth month in than if I put another one in, besides December.)

Huey, the tactitian affinity boost was proven false a long time ago by people using codebreaker.
While it was originally thought to help out the growth rates by 5% for those who shared the same affinity as your tactitian, people who used codebreaker could give Hector Afa's Drops and the tactitian affinity boost and he would in theory have a 100% HP growth, but eventually he would get a level up without growing in HP or other similar tests that proved it didn't exist.

*sighs*Earth's not on the list. FE6-8 don't have Earth and Heaven affinities. The affinity you have based on your month comes from FE7, so it would be impossible to have an Earth or Heaven affinity.
And remember at the beginning of the game in FE7 when you put in your Tactitian's data? The birth month you put determined your affinity matching the list Huey posted.
