Roadrunner used to have some good bands on their label though.
Tooth and Nail: I had to click on "enter" three times before it actually went to it. I haven't heard of this label before, nor any of these bands except a few so I can't really say.
I'd like to add Southern Lord to the discussion, they do have good bands, but they have sketchy tactics for releasing their music. It seems like one day the thought "If I'm only going to sell 1000 or so albums why not limit it to 1000 and double the price?". And I've heard that they skip out on making the vinyl releases they say they'll make.

Roadrunner DID have some good bands once upon a time...
Tooth & Nail... I don't know anything about the bands on that label except Underoath and I don't care at all for them. I probably 99.9% wouldn't care for the rest of whoever is on that label.
Southern Lord is okay, I mean, they have a few cool releases, Saint Vitus's V reissue, Om, Boris; but I'm not wild about a lot of their other releases and I don't like the direction of the label and the selection of bands

I guess since they're such a niche label with little-to-no competition, they think they can do whatever they damn well please.
As for Tooth and Nail, all you really need to know is that their catalog consists almost entirely of Christian or "clean" hard rock and metalcore acts. They're really popular with the megachurch crowd. Hence...totally dildos.

A lot of labels cater to a certain style, how is this any better/worse than another?

Gravechylde So what? How does that make the label less admirable? A lot of labels cater to a certain style, how is this any better/worse than another? Oh, it's not the target marketing I'm deriding. It's the nature of the music they specialize in that gets my eyes rolling.

Ash, you really are full of it. Who CARES if a label is a Chirstian Label. Sometimes certain people use a label as a branching effect.
I could sit here and roll MY eyes at the Black Metal labels and such. But I don't.
