Do high notes suck or what? |
Hell yes they do. It's like trying to shave a cat X_X |

No way! I love playing as high as I can and watching the glass shatter. |

Hiya, I'm a saxophone by heart but I'm trying to teach myself to play the Flute (because I want to play some Pokemon 2000 music but that's beside the point >.>) and I can't seem to play the really high notes (like second octave high). One part of the song calls for a high E and it kinda sounds like I'm killing my cat... So any advice from you Flutes out there?

yeah, learning the high notes can be a pain. im sure shaving a cat would be a pain as well....but seeing as i have never tried that (and never intend to) im not sure how closely related they are. make sure your air is fast. try making your lips closer together to concentrate the air more. dont worry about it if it sounds bad, it always sounds like that when you learn a new high note. i know that still happens to me. just practice and it will work its self out. biggrin

I've heard about the faster air thing, which is not as easy as it sounds @_@ If only...My cats are fully clawed, and thus I assume trying to shave them would end up with me having my eyes scratched out. D: So, only in degree of difficulty is shaving cats related to flute playing XD

Oog, high E can be a pain.
high notes will take a lot of air support, fast air, and practice. You'll get used to it. And THEN they'll be fun. >D

I personally, can't reach High D. I want a solo/duet for Majestia...But when I try to play it sounds like i'm a flute in a brass ensemble.. (O_O) So high pitched... x_x Um... High E isn't hard for me. But different types of flutes...
I get confused with F Natural and High F.. O_______O

Playing high E on a flute can be hard but you just have to get the right ombosure. (SP?) The tighter your lips are togethor the better the note's going to sound. It'll be hard at first but it only gets easier. I myself got it in like, a week... but I also started on flute and am a fairly fast learner. Also watch the air stream. You have to direct it in to the hole and not at the hole.

The REALLY high notes take a while to hit, but they're fun to suprise people with once you get it! biggrin The high notes are easy to hit, but it's making them sound nice and not screechy that's the problem. Again, like everyone's been saying - smaller, tighter ombeshere (sp?) hole, a faster air stream, and aiming it higher (across the mouthpiece and not down into the mouthpiece) will all help with that.

idk if i have enough experience to say this, but if you try blowing fast air then it might help. Oh and try not to roll in too much, its eaiser to play high notes , but it wouldn't be good to get used to it. It could affect your playing in the future. Hope it helped.

I love playing high notes!! the highest that I've ever had to play is a high A (lolz! the one above, above the staff), and, honestly, it's not that hard. Just make sure you have a really tight, small embouchure (sp...?) and really fast air! good luck! heart
