First of all, I don't know if this is a repeat thread or not.
I also don't know if this should go in another forum.

So, you know how twilight teez is going to sell a real version of Bella's engagement ring starting the 26th.
I was so excited for it, I really wanted to see what it looked like.
Then I saw it.

I was so dissapointed. I mean, really?

Here is the description, in Eclipse, page 458.
"Nestled into the black satin, Elizabeth Masen's ring sparkled in the dim light. The face was a long oval, set with slanting rows of glittering round stones. The band was gold- delicate and narrow. The gold made a fragile web around the diamonds."

That brought to mind a small, delicate ring. Very antique, considering it would be the early 1900's at the very latest assuming that Elizabeth was engaged before Edward's first birth in 1901.
I had pictured something kind of like these.

Especially the second one. Except gold.
In my opinion the one they have is large, awkward and to me, very similar to something a rich, gaudy old lady would wear. It doesn't really match the era it would had to have come from.

I mean, it's not a hugely ugly ring. Just not what I pictured.

Does it match what you thought?
What do you generally think about it?

HEY, I HAVE A NEW ONE.

This one is an actual, antique wedding ring from that period.
It's almost exactly as I pictured.
You see, when, I first read the description I interpreted 'long, oval face' as a long, oval diamond.
So make that ring gold, with the center diamond a little more oval, and there you go. Slanting rows of diamonds and a narrow band.

Personally, I don't care about Bella's engagement ring. I decided to save some braincells trying to imagine what a puny ring looked like.

I think the bottom two are a bit modern. I don't know much about jewelry over the past centuries (since I don't where any at all), I think the ring in the first picture has an antique feeling to it which is good since it's suppose to be antique. I think it fits and besides, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And with Bella as the beholder, she'll find anything Edward related ******** beautiful due to Meyer's first person POV. So for all we know the ring could be hideous to us, but utterly magnificent to Bella.

Ew. That piece of garbage looks like something you get out of the crappy vending machines at a Piggly-Wiggly.

And I do rather like this one.

Well done, lildarkangel3001.

@tastic: Lol, Piggly-Wiggly. We don't have any down here, but I know my mom has told me about them. I think the name is super cute.

I thought the top picture fit with what I imagined. All those other rings seem more recent and with the size of the first ring, it makes me think of the turn of the century. But that's just me.

Well its got the long oval part right. But not slanting rows of diamonds. THe other picks don't have the oval with the diamonds in it.

I honestly hadn't out that much thought into it, but if you look at the first ring mentioned here, called a cluster engagement ring, you'll see that Bella's engagement ring, the way it looks even in that picture from Infinite Jewelry Company in the first post, is accurate for the time period. I would have expected it to have just a tiny bit more detailing as far as the gold band goes based on Meyer's description, but the ring is very authentic for the Victorian era.

Well, it's accurate for the time period, yes, but there are other Victorian era rings that would be more appealing, first of all, to sell to a modern day crowd, and secondly, that would easily match the description in the book. In the above link, for example, it lists the 'halfloop' style of ring, which is what I always imagined Bella's looked like (well, slightly modified to be oval instead of round...)

its pretty, but not exactly how i thought it would be. ithought the rig would ha more detail in it. i think they only got te part about it being a long oval thing right.

Very true, I was just pointing out that it is accurate for the time period. A few people didn't actually think it was or didn't think it looked it. If they had combined say, a cluster with a halfloop, it probably would have been exactly as I pictured or very close, at least.

Yes. I agree. I personally think they go tit down quite accurately.

yeah i think for the sake of it coinciding with the actual story and time period, it would be kind of interesting to see an old fashioned ring. the fact that it's kind of wierd to us shows us that it's a little more realistic. if it were to be totally modern like the ones from above i agree, i dont know if it would be as appealing. kind of like they're trying hard and taking away from the book to make us happy. opinionopinion
