They did that to us today in band camp when we split into small groups. We were blindfolded and marched forward one line individually. It's my first year, too.

:'D We did something similar at one of our practices.

Our BD had us march the whole first part of our show with our eyes closed. xD Really dangerous, but really fun at the same time. I ended up almost tripping over another trumpet player. x'D

They did that to use on time backwards and forwards marching. To show if we was takeing to big or to small of a step sweatdrop

No way. My BD would never let us do anything like that. My trumpet senior friend and I were messing around during marching rehersals one time though and began backward marching with our eyes closed - we backward march straight leg - and we ended up almost falling over cuz we were totally uncoordinated with our eyes closed. lol

For basics at band camp, a few times they made us march with our eyes closed to help us adjust our step sizes. I hate doing that, i get all freaked out that I might run into someone or something. x.x

That sounds like fun. I've never done that before...I wouldn't do it unless I was marching alone or with good people. There are people in my old band that can't figure out directions sometimes.

My band has never done anything like that. Good thing too, I'm so clumsy when I can't see what's going on. sweatdrop

Oh wow...Nothing like that of course. If I had a bigger section then I would totally make them do that!

lol we did that once haha!!! haven't done it this year because of this reason and i think it's hilarious. I ran head on into a bass drum and then a contra (tuba if ya don't know) tripped over me and i got a concussion. it was awesome though lol. i was knocked out for about 30 sec. and my flute was badly damaged, but when i found out what happened, i just cracked up laughing.

Our director's considered it before, I think. Either that, or the section leaders just pretended that he did... but luckily, we haven't done it [yet]. Especially if we were to do more than march in lines... If we were to try and march our show blindfolded, someone would die. D: There are too many close calls with our eyes OPEN.

Our director is always yelling at us for not either watching the drum major, not watching where we are on the yard lines, not covering down on diagonal slides, and/or not watching the people aroung us. We would all die if he blindfolded us. gonk
-and we have a thousand and one adjustments to do with just that anyway.

We tried that in practice one time at my high school. The sad thing was, our step sizes were generally fine, but we couldn't march in a straight line with our eyes closed, so when we'd look, we were way off where we should have been.

We weren't blindfolded, but my band had to march with our eyes closed to practice a perfect 8 to 5 step size.
Its a good teaching tool!
