So, I have to go play at graduation in a few hours, so I thought I'd make a topic.
In my experiences, nobody likes to play the dreaded, predictable Pomp and Circumstance. Share stories, opinions, and the like.

lol...
This last year we had to play it many many times and I played it every single time. (I'm sure some others didn't.) The awkward sounding quarter notes of the bassoon part bother me. XD

Haha I was one of the last ones done, I only had to play about twenty measures, my poor friend... She had to play it four times... Haha I laughed...

My band director slightly changed it, so it didn't seem as a drag. but normally i don't mind, because if its basically the same thing, you can let your eyes wander to the graduation ceremony (while using peripheral vision to take note of the beat)

I hate that song with a raging passion. Especially the repetition in the tuba part. It's very, very boring to play.

In my band the saxes and the clarinets trade off the first half of the song every time we repeat so they don't get tired, but once both sections thought it wasn't there turn so no one played except for the percussion while my bd just kept on conducting until we all started laughing. It was awesome blaugh

Percussion part is soooooo boring...
Only three parts, and like, eight of us. I figure everyone else'll switch off at some point or another but I'll just be sitting there reading or watching the seniors come in, or attempting to mess with my boyfriend's head. XD But that'd be bad 'cause he'd actually be playing...so...maybe not.

Three words: The Tuba Part.
It's so boring. We actually count how many times we play it every year. This year, we hit a new record: 27 Times.
Agh!! And the tubas can't really switch off, there was only two of us. The other three were graduating.

Bleh! I loathe that song. All we play are those constant quarter notes! Since I had the 1st trombone part, they moved a little, but it was all in my upper range. At least our BD had us switch to Olympic Spirit in the middle (as a surprise) and my lips got a break.

Last year since the other euphonium player didn't show up to play I had to play it every time and had to play a bit louder than normal. By the end my mouth was hurting. I did end up memorizing the evil song.

DUHHH DUHDUHDUH DUAAAHHH NUAAAHH...
It's pure s**t. (' > . <)
I skipped playing at graduation last year... and the year before... *snort* So I've never actually had to sit through the torture of playing it during the actual cermony. Just hearing it is enough to send me on a homicidal rampage... just the disorder of the rehearsals, no one wanting to be there, everyone at the band director's throat, having to play that wretched song over and over and over until the band director can feign confidence that we will actually show up, never mind play it well, at graduation. (-_-)
