In one hour, the sight of high school students in their parents' arms would be seen. It was day six at band cam, the night that the parents traveled to West Virginia to see the show the band had worked on for the past week. The students had been marching the last number untill midnight the previous night, trying to make all of their hits for the new numbers. Everyone ran around cleaning up the camp in preperation for their guests and their night's performance. Thunder rumbled in the distance, and while some just ignored it, others worried it would interfere with the special night

The time had come. Band members were smiling as they took the feild. Suddenly, before they had a chance to start, a flash of lightning was seen, followed by a loud crack of thunder. Students scrambled off the field with parents, everyone grabbing any equipment seen. Shelter was sought in the mess hall, and once there, they waited. While some were vistiting others were talking of the show that never was

Tears in eyes, junior Kira Bailey said "I can't believe it. We worked so hard. We've been on the field 'till midnight everynight we've been here this week...." Some were dissapointed that they didn't get a chance to perform their first show of the season.

Parents joined their children at the tables as they talked, laughed, and ate sugary foods and drank sodas. "That's the best part about parents night. We get to have all of the things we've been cut off from for a week. It's crazy how something so little could mean so much, and it rocks that we see our parents. You don't realize how much you're going to miss them untill you're away from them." Sophomore Kody Shepperd said.

A few hours passed and it was time for the parents to go home. When they were completely gone, talk of the performance that never happend was heard throughout the camp by everyone. Freshman Evan Hill joked about the "chaos" after the parents were gone."Dude, that was crazy! We had to run off the feild with those huge deathtraps we play! (sousaphones)"

Junior Erin Mucha said, "I was upset becuase we worked so hard all week and didn't get to show it off. It's okay though, I'm sure we'll make up for it"

Students prepared once again for another event. It was a tradition for The Pride Of Salem to do initiation for the rookies and have a dance that lasted untill two in the morning after the parents show, performed or not.

"Everything was cool again since we got to do our initiation and have the dance once everything died down." Sophomore Erin Malone said.

That was the story posted in our yearbook. It is exactly how it happend and reading it still takes me back to that night at camp.. Do you guys have any memorable stories?

We recently took a class field trip to Dollywood. While we were there, me and about four friends (the band geeks) stopped at a wood cutter's shop. Each of us pitched in and we got something for our band directors. It was a wooden thing that said Bandgeeks in shiny blue letters. On one side, there was a treble clef and on the other side, there was a quarter note (both were shiny black). The five of us presented to them onstage after our Spring Concert. Mr. D almost started crying. It was great.

It suddenly occurs to me that my story wasn't about a band camp. Oh well.
