My name is Sarah and I live in Ontario, Canada. I'm half Danish and Half English. On my grandfather's side I can trace my lineage back to Shakespeare.

I speak english and took a ton of compulsory years in French, but what my heart and soul resides in is Swedish (but it's hard when I'm so busy gonk ), so I'm learning that.

I am Elianne, I live in the Netherlands. As far as I know I am completely Dutch.
I can speak Dutch and English, and I am currently learning French. I had some German classes 2 years ago, but I sucked and I didn't think the language was interesting. Languages I want to learn are (among others) Japanese, Hebrew and Norwegian.

I'm from Toronto, Canada and I'm of (as far as I know) Chinese descent. I was born here, though (on Canada Day too!) so I'm quite effectively Canadian. Apparently my Chinese used to be really good when I was little, but then when I started going to school and speaking English a lot more than Chinese, I lost those capabilities. So now my Chinese is rather lacking, but at least I can still understand fluently.

I've had compulsory French lessons at school since third grade, and I'm one of the minority who still continued learning French after it's no longer mandatory (after grade 9). :] I'm going to continue with French, until I'm hopefully fluent.

My other main language interest is Japanese. I've been taking basic Japanese for two years, but I'd like something more intensive. The grammar is really taking me getting some used to but Japanese is the other language I'd like to be fluent in in my lifetime.

I'm also interested in Russian, Icelandic, and German, but they're not priorities.

Hi! I'm Bee. 3nodding I live in Texas, so my life is very heavily influenced by Mexican culture. I've picked up a bit of Spanish from friends and teachers, but to be honest I prefer the French language, which I've taken two years of. I've been told I have a good accent, but I still need a lot of practice...!

In any case, foreign languages are my favorite hobby. I've been slowly learning Japanese since I was thirteen. I can understand perfectly, and speak well enough to communicate with native speakers. Currently I'm working on kanji memorization, and I can read and write in hiragana and katakana. My next goal in Japanese is learning Kansai-ben. I think it sounds prettier than the Tokyo dialect, maybe more melodic.

I would be willing to study any language, though! I'm Swedish on my mom's side, and my grandfather on my dad's side was German. Beyond that, I'm not too sure about my background. I've been studying Thai, Korean, Farsi, Arabic, and Irish Gaelic out of pure interest for various lengths of time each. My friends call me crazy, but languages are so much fun! whee

I was born in the United States and currently live in Southern California. I'm a citizen of Canada and the USA, so is my dad. I'm part German, Swedish, Russian, Hungarian, and possibly Danish. I'm proud of where I come from even if I suffer from reverse discrimination for it (if you know what I mean....)The only really cool thing about my family is that my great-great grandfather was a chemist in Russia who discovered something important (but not important for me to remember what it was whee ) and that I had relatives in the mafia. There's some more cool stuff, but that's not really the point of this thread.

I speak English (it's my natlang), am at an intermediate level with French, and am also teaching myself German. I had to put Swedish on hold for a while, and it'll probably stay like that until I finish with my French and I get my German up to where I want it to be before I start on another langauge. I also know a little Spanish, Hungarian, and some other langauges. Oh! I can read about...half....of the Arabic alphabet. I really like French but I feel that my heart is more with German and Swedish, so I'd like to be able to focus on them more. Every langauge other than English (obviously) and French I've had to learn independantly and teach myself, except for Spanish which I just sort of pick up because of the huge Latin-American prescence here.

Hmm...well now I get to talk about the cultural part. The only cultural activities that I participate in from the countries I come from are eating/making the food from those places. xd Also learning about them, speaking the langauge, and making a point to learn about them and current/historical affairs that went on in those places. I also plan on going to all the countries I come from because I really want to visit them and all that great stuff....

Canada, and am French-Canadian. I am fluently bilingual French and English. I have taken a course on Welsh and am currently learning Irish and hope to continue with both of them as well as add Breton and Scots Gaelic in the mix somewhere.

As mentioned I'm French-Canadian so we have those traditions. We don't do la guignolé so much any more but our own rendition of it. We have Réveillon as opposed to Christmas dinner etc. Food wise we have our sugar pie, ragout etc. I love learning about the cultures of the language I'm learning, so if you haven't figured it out yet I'm really interested in Celtic culture. *laugh*
