Anyone know a store or website that sells modest prom dresses, or dresses that can be altered to become modest? Junior Prom's coming up, and I'm having a little trouble finding a dress.

welcome to the club. I ended up just getting a strapless dress and if I got to hell for it.. well I'll bring sun screen.

Hmm. One Idea I had was try and get a dress that covers as much of your chest as possible and don't care about sleeves.

(Perhaps!!) get a chinnese style dress where it has that turtle neck type top, and then just wear a sweater of coat over it.

or yet again perhaps.) get a tank top like dress where the collar does cover up to your collar bone but her haps goes out to your shoulders..

((has the wide neck, but covers up to your collar bone)) and then just wear a sweater over that))

Don't look at the dress as a finished piece but keep an open mind.

_

another idea is perhaps just to skip out on this years prom and make a dress for next year (or have one made) that is modest. (Sewing isn't that hard, aspecially if you can find a group of old ladies that having a sewing group. ninja ))

Do a net search for Modest Formalwear or Modest Prom. There are various standards of modesty out there, though, so check carefully. For instance, Muslim standards require one to cover everything but the face, hands, and feet. Jewish standards permit one to expose the lower arm below the elbow, the lower leg below the knee, the ears, and the neck down to the collar bone; but unlike Islam, which only requires that one be covered, strict Judaism requires a woman to conceal the area where her legs meet together (as with a skirt or dress). Mormon standards allow a girl to show the knee below a skirt or shorts, wear trousers, and even wear short sleeves and a lower neck - as long as the shoulder and the breasts are covered. So learn what your community's standards are, decide how well you want to follow those standards, and then go hunting. smile

If your family is willing and able to pay a fair-to-steep price, I suggest http://zorifashion.com/gowns.php -- Most styles suit the 30-and-older crowd, but some would be suitable for a younger person.

lol I actually like some of those dresses.. then i saw they were almost 1k.. and I didn't like them anymore.

(I would never pay 900+ for a dress!! You kidding me! I'd make that sucker myself!)

If you can make a dress for yourself, why not do that, then?
