oh my gosh! this is so stupid! i was talking with my mom, dad, sister and her gay friend at lunch once and we started talking about lesbians (i the closet. not making fun of me). first they started talking about how one popular lesbian at the high school was disgusting and gross just cuz she's a LESBIAN. then my sister started talking about a girl from her old school who MUST be a "dyke" because she dresses like a boy. it's not so much the fact that they were making fun of girls for dressing like boys (haha, like me) that annoyed me, but the fact that they only didn't like them because they liked girls. well, what made it worse was then they started talking about how girls are only lesbians when thier drunk! HELLO! SHOW OF HANDS: ANY LESBIANS HAD A RELATIONSHIP WITHOUT BEING DRUNK?! ugh, i can't stand that! i mean, my sister's friend was joining in on the girls clothes, but he didn't even defend the whole drunk thing! is it just my family or has anyone else ever met someone who tolerates a gay GUY but not lesbian/bisexual?

first of all, i think they don't like lesbians because they know deep down that you are one. it's that psychological thing. family are usually in tuned with eachother.
second of all, perhaps the gay guy has either: had some problems with lesbians before and doesn't like all of them becuase of that. i'm the same way with skater boys and cheerleaders. i've had friends that are both, but it's just the psychological thing. or he could just be joining in to fit in with your parents.

that makes sense. so does that mean that if i come out, if they already expect it, it should be ok? cuz, like, my friend was always being asked by his mom and bro if he was gay, but when he came out, they were still in denial. so, do i have luck, or would it still be bad to come out?

yeah, it sounds like your sis's friend is very insecure to join in that way... and I know that where I live, gay men are looked at as clean, stylish fabulous people, while the lesbians are considered to be rude, man-hating beeyatches. I hate theses stereotypes. I am bisexual, and told my parents 5 years ago. At first they thought it was just a phase, but they know now...

At my high school, everyone was always best friends with the gay guys. Bisexual girls were okay. But if someone started talking about a lesbian, it was them saying that lesbians were sluts or whores. It's so stupid the way ppl think some times.

Homophobia is ignorance...
Being homophobic means being insecure about being heterosexual...so one of my friends put it to me. She's right.
