Okay lately I've heard that people are debating about gay men being able to join the army.
People against it would usually say that it would be awkward for other soldiers and cause problems. Also we all know that gay men can be..femine.
Anywayz..personally I think gay men should be able to join the army..I mean if they pass their training then they should be able to be in the army. And if one gay man starts hitting on another, then the other man can just file a complaint. IT'S CALLED SEXUAL HARRASSMENT PEOPLE! AND IT CAN HAPPEN TO ANYBODY XD
So what are you views on all this?
Should they be able to join the army???

Sure they should be allowed.
If women are.
And so on.

I think it's much more interesting for people in germany. Every man that hits 18 MUST go join the army for a year or so.
You have to do some mental and physical tests and stuff, and then they decide if they take you or not.

Some years ago they made a law saying that every woman who wants to can join the army if she passes the tests.
That's really unfair, because men have to. My opinion is that if they want to join the army, they should have to, just as much as men.
This half-banana stuff really pissed me off about female liberalisation.

If women want the right to go to the army, they should also take the obligation of having to go.

Obviously women and men aren't in the same camps.
It would have to be seen if gay men should rather be put into men's camps or women's camps, due to the "sexual harrassment" problem of yours.

I see no reason why homosexuals should be banned from joining the armed forces. Are they not humans too? I mean, are people that uncomfortable around other humans just because they enjoy the same sex? I'm not sure if it's true, but you have to sign paperwork for the Marines to say you are not gay. Do lesbians have to sign the same stuff? If not, why not?

This sounds like it all comes down to people being insecure with what is not the same as them. When something different comes along, we tend to shun it until people learn to accept it. I think I'm gonna do a deep search and ask the Marine recruits why gays can't join the forces. Should make for interesting conversation since I have no intention of joining up with them. I mean, I can't justify running the risk of being sent overseas to fight in a battle that I never asked for and doing all the killing (if I even could, pacifist me) for a guy who sits behind a desk and is guarded by men and women far more capable of fighting this war than I am. If we need to ask a real question, why are we recruiting 17 and 18 year olds fresh out of high school with no experience of the world? I mean, we end up sending them over there with only months of training to fight against terrorists that have been trained their entire life to fight. Does this seem a bit lopsided?

It's basically the same like that in America. Males over 18 HAVE to register for the draft, but women don't. It's not so extreme but it's the same basic thing.

As for gay ppl in the army, let 'em in! Do you really think that zero straight men who go over there don't become butt pirates after a while? It's basically the same thing as prison. Plus, not letting gay people in is discrimination, which I'm pretty sure is against the law

I honestly don't care if they join or not, but I will say this. Don't ask don't tell. I have heard stories (from people I personally know who where in the army) about how homosexuals who "came out" ended up KIA, MIA, and took "accidental friendly fire"
PostPosted: Sat Jun 14, 2008 12:14 pm

I think that people are afraid of homosexuals. They think that homosexuals aren't able to control themselves, will be attracted to someone, and will go wild. It's called self-control, people! I don't think anybody is going to come on to someone else who knows how to use a gun and has lots of friends who also use guns unless the first person is pretty sure that their advances wouldn't be rejected. As someone already mentioned, there are also policies to prevent sexual harassment. So if homosexuals want to join the army, why not? Personally, I'm a fan of "don't ask, don't tell." It's none of my business what you do in your bedroom and it's none of your business what I do in mine. I don't see why the military should be any different.

personally, i dont think homosexuals should be aloud in the millitary due to certain reasons such as,

conflict between males. (minimal view point)
and
all the other countries know whats goin on with american military, if they were to recieve word america is now allowing homosexuals into the military, that would not be good or us. we would then be viewed as a supirior country that has gone extremely soft. (maximum view point)

due to equal opertunities acts for both male and female genders the level of discapline has already gone down in the military. i grew up with my dad being a vietnam era army drill sergeant. i joined the army and the level of discapline instilled to myself and other soldiers was very minimal to say the least. those that shouldnt have passed made it like it wasnt a big deal, and those who did deserve to pass, like myself, made it not feeling as if we truely earned the right to call our selves soldiers. if there is a homosexual male or female in the military to this day, i would like to say i am surpised, however, the fact is that there are in the military and due to human rights, the "DONT ASK, DONT TELL" act was put into play. i would have no issue with fighting along side a homesexual male or female, as long as he or she pulled the same weight as my self and my other fellow soldiers.

@Creaper:

Why would a woman or gay male not pull as much weight as yourself? That doesn't make sense. Hundreds of women and gay males do just as much work as you do and they also have to deal with the extra pressure of not being completely accepted, which most regular army males don't have to deal with.

Also almost all of our allies are pro-gay countries. Our biggest allies, the English, are very pro-gay. I can't say how they feel about it military wise but I'm pretty sure it is just as pro-gay. I don't believe they would loose any respect for us, and aren't allied countries the ones that matter the most? Who really cares what our enimes think of us, nothing we do will change how they think of us. So not allowing gays into the military won't make them think any worse of us.

Also did you know that some of the strongest armies in history allowed gay men or had a majority population gay men. Sparta for example. They were the gayist of all the armies and yet they were probably the strongest in history. So did their sexuality really make a difference? No.

you have a few good points in there i will admit it. but i did not say what i said to strike out at gay men or women. when i said as long as they can pull the same weight as me and my fellow soldiers i dont care, i ment exsactly that. the soldiers i am around are soldiers for a reason. they bust there a** plain and simple there men and there women. if any of them was gay. i wouldnt care. because they all pull the same weight. that is all that matters to me. when i spoke of other countries, i wasnt talking about our allies. i was talking about our enemies. and it does matter what they think. for instance. would you want your enemies to think you was out of ammunition and on a retreat? yes you would. that way you would have them following you into an ambush. it is a very precise game thats played when it comes to our military. we never won in korea, and we never won in vietnam. the whole time they had china on there side, then theres the middle eastern countries who despise us. these are all very powerfull countries. it matters what our enemies think of us to make sure we dont have a possible world war on our hands. anything is possible, and we could loss some powerfull allies from it. i believe if we kept the same stand point as we di about 10 years ago and keep the dont ask dont tell. i would have no issue with soldiers who get out of the armed forces jumpin up and down yellin anything they want about them bein gay and they had the chance to serve. a good friend of mine is gay and served in the USANG
(us army national gaurd) as an infantry man, and got shrapnel to his leg while fighting off insurgens. after drinking with him a couple times, i asked if he was gay, because he admitted he likes to go to gay clubs and dance, and he admited he is. from that point on i treated him and respect him the same as when we first met up in a plasma donation center. donating plasma for the same reasons, to do the right thing and help pull the weight for our country. no joke. you understand some of my meanings now? i may have over explained it..... i tend to do that lol.

It's not as if there aren't already homosexuals in the military. They just don't advertise.

And I don't think they should, either.

Or anyone should...

I don't see any reason to keep gays out of the military. The main argument against it that I've heard is that people are afraid it would be "distracting" to have gay guys serve with them. Some senator or another was describing a scene in which men had to huddle together for warmth at night during a mission, and he was afraid there would be "arousal" if gays were mixed into that. They're making it sound like gay people can't control their sexual urges, like they'd be trying to bang every soldier in the unit, and that's just ridiculous.

i definitely think they should be able to, they are like everyone else, and its not like every guy they see they go like, "Hey, what are you doing after the war?" Its not like that, its like a woman joining the army, there is nothing wrong and who cares if they are feminine? they aren't just going to stay on the sidelines while their fellow bunker mate goes and dies valiantly.
