I read the book a while ago and have been very interested in the concept of technology leading to mans downfall. The ultimate irony.
What do you think of the nature of the "zombies" in the book? I didn't really think they were zombies when they proved to be regaining powers of thought and in some cases of supernatural ability.
What did you think of when those guys drove by and threw that cinder block into the girls head? It was a heck of a suprise to me!
By the way, I have all the songs that the zombies are described to play. Very interesting stuff indeed. As soon as i saw those titles i pulled out my ipod and started reading to them. lol

Cell is the story about the world when people cell phones give them brain scrambeling sound signals. Your phone will ring, and when you pick it up, it will scramble you and turn you into a crazy who will then try to kill all normals.
They are not really zombies, but they have their own sets of powers tha make them interesting. Like, they all lie down at night and emit sounds from radio signals.
As they evolve they can also fly and do all sorts of crap.
One man is the chosen one who can stop them. And he will make many sacrifices along the way.

I don't recall any of them flying. But Cell was pretty good, although it lacked the finesse of his earlier works... Things just aren't the same without The Crimson King And Flag/Walter

Cell was pretty darn good from what I remember it.
Ending was pretty depressing though... :/
I don't remember knowing any of the songs, I'll have to look them up though smile
And the zombies? Not zombies. I guess I'm not creative enough to think of what they really where, some sort of mind controlled, brain washed things I guess, because they kept being killed. Was a creepy idea though, cell phones doing all that. And think how many people use cellphones these days x.x

That's what scared me most about this book (That and I do practically live in Boston. o_O). razz . I practically couldn't put this one down, I loved it. I thought it was funny how on the sleave (of the hardcover, not sure about paperback) he mentions that he doesn't own a cell phone.
I don't recall any of them flying, either.
I thought it was sad when Alice died, though. I liked her, thought she was cool.

I loved Cell....its more like his older books, and I liked the idea of technology getting loose in the world. Of course, the end scenes are typical King, everything that can go wrong does with a twist!! burning_eyes

They flew when they were escorting the bus in to their big gathering thing at the end, that was what I read.
Maybe I am mistaken though, memorys tend to alter themeselves...

A better question is who is going to see the Movie Cell when it comes out sometime in 09 or 10 it is being directed by ELi Roth of Cabin Fever and Hostel infamey. I dont beleive the phone crazies were zombies but simply a new genus of humans. They were human in physiology but their chemical and mental framework was so twisted by the Pulse that they cant be considered human but thay cant be called zombies because they showed intelligence

They were more like birds, is how King described them, using the flock mind method. He also reffered to the brain as a computer that was simply reprogramed to accomodate a different type of human. The cliff hanger ending infuriated me to no end, although I can make a few guesses as to what happens. None of them that good. ;_;
