 Today.
I woke up, as normal. Late. About 10 past 7 in the morning. It's storming. Like thunder and lightning, apocalypse storming. I mutter to myself, hating storms and force my self to roll out of bed. I get ready as normal, and as I'm brushing my hair, lightning strikes, so close that the house shakes. Now, I'm pretty scared. The dog is inside, she's going insane, and she runs to me because she's scared. Then the rain starts getting heavier. My Grandma comes in to our house, soaked. She went to pick my cousins up for school but the road near the pub is underwater, so afraid of getting washed away she comes to our house. I ring my friend to see whether she's going to school. Halfway into the conversation, the power goes. Then I call her on the mobile, then that line drops out too. So we go onto the verandah and watch the rain. Its flooding down our driveway about 30cm at it's deepest. My dad, remebers that there are power tools on the floor in the garage and goes out to check them, then inspects the neighbours yard to see if its as bad, leans on the colourbond fence and gets electrocuted. Fun. So he runs back inside and the waters keep rising. There are people in their 4WDs driving along, all smug thinking they can go anywhere. Hah. They get to the end of our street then turn back, failing to get past the half a metre of water. Damn council. The highway (at the end of our street) is built up. So the waters can't get past it. The area where I live is realtivley flat, at the base of a mountain. so we get all the run off. But the council has the most dodgy drainage system. And the drains infront of our house are blocked, so the water isn't going anywhere. Down the end of the street next to us, There are cars floating in the Pool carpark. The waters there reached over a metre. Ridiculous. Then we get towing trucks coming up and down our street. followed by more traffic, except they all pile up in the middle of the street Because they can't get out. A truck with an escavator on top comes down our street and knocks the powerlines from next door, snapping them. So they now have a live wire in their front yard. I have to go searching down the street for the dog dish, because it floated away. About 10:30, the water in the street has completely gone away and the sun is shining. Yet. the water in our yard is still sititng there, and no-one has power. .About Midday our power comes on, and the water has cleared.
So that was my morning.

Wow.
Well mine was similar to start with.
I woke up early, 7.30 and it's storming. Like thunder and lightning, (but apocalypse? I think you're over-reacting) I get out of bed and go downstairs to find my dog inside, going crazy over the whole thing. Running up and down the house chasing the thunder every time. The back porch-type thing is covered with water and all the drains are overflowing as well as our water tank. And some thunder/lightning even makes the house shake. We eventually get out of the house (after coaxing our dog to go out the back) and as soon as we drive our there is thunder and lighting right on top of each other, it was sooo close tot he car!!! The creek behind our house is almost full, paddocks have turned to lakes, roads to streams and dry gutters to raging rivers. We get to school and all is fine and wet. Thank goodness our school is on the top of a hill.
Oh and this explains:Quote: I love a sun-burnt country, a land of sweeping planes, of rugged mountain ranges, of droughts and flooding rains.

The lightning hit a bin and my mum thinks that it was the same strike of lightning that came after we drove out of the drive way and there was lightning and thunder right on top of each other. Because of the time it was at and how close it was to our house.

I mean, in rain I can put on some wellies and use my sled as a boat. That's only if I lived somewhere where it rained tons, though... ><
