I've noticed that the avatars the win in the avatar arena are getting less and less impressive. It seems to be all about how expenisve and rare your items are these days. I don't know if anyone else cares about the avatar arena, but I think even my avatar is better than this one:  I think people should care more about how the avatar looks then how many rare items it has piled onto it. Sure, collectibles look really cool, but you have to make them work together.

I miss the stories. For example, yours could have an awesome story. you've got a wolf singing while you play guitar. Run with that, that way people with genuinly good ideas would have a chance! sweatdrop

By old standards it would have been as long as it had a nifty story and wasn't a set or starter clothes. Now everything has to be so crowded, you can't even see it. O.o

I think what makes an excellent avatar is the fact that it's either shiny or looks very appealing to the eye, but I prefer the ones that match and are based on characters srom somewhere.
Last week in the arenas, one of the people did say cheese and die, and it made me feel that it was worthy of winning because it was something that I could relate to........

To win in the arena you
either have to have an
increadible cosplay or
impeccable matching
skills that make your
avatar something you
don't see everyday.
Basically, you need
originality and creativity
by the bucketfull.
That's why winners win.
If you're thinking about
entering the arena I'd
suggest going to the AT
to ask them, otherwise
you might just be wasting
your gold.

I really don't get why the avi winners in the arena come out on top.
The last at least 5 I've seen were things like "The Orbit Girl" (orbit gum) & silly things like that.
I want to see a geniunely unique avi that's 100% Gaia, screw irl.

Nah, all the winners have in common is a good description. You can have anything, and with a good description, it will do well. Cosplays seem to be popular, too.

I can say this honestly because I have won and placed many times in the arena. You have to have what The Shindig said or....be very popular. The only reason I placed week 37, last year was because of my friends. It was a mediocre avi and I was almost embarrassed it place.
The pic that you used as an example, is my friend's cosplay. I personally don't like it either, but Bish has a lot of friends and he is able to get a lot of votes.

The Avatar Arena still has it's decent spots, but I'll never forget the week back in '06 when a piece of crap won, and it was only because of botters making around 300 gold a minute in the AvA, or when that [bleep] oprah_jesus won an unearned 2nd place because she had that thread used to get Giftboxes. If you don't see the connection, it's because of people giving 10/10 to avatars that are not worthy.
The AvA is still the same: Sometimes, crap wins, other times, purely excellent wins. It all depends on the people voting.
