Aven XVI Ears? Why? Just a guess, but to make them like elves or something?
That's one reason. Phantasy Star Universe has a really good character creation engine. You can choose between Human, Newman, Beast or CAST. Then You can edit facial features, ears, eyes, eyebrows, eye color, skin tone, hair, body proportions, voice, voice pitch. etc. But the true reason is because two of my primary characters, in my own series, have pointed ears.
