I just heard on the news that a woman was strangled to death by her boyfriend in L.A. She was also 4 months pregnant and her boyfriend (when they find him) is going to be charged with TWO counts of murder. I think that it is absolute bullshit. The fetus wasn't even viable outside of the womb and yet it's another murder. ******** you Conner's Law.

ottery I absolutely HATE Conner's law! I have no idea why they passed it. stressed To set precidents that help chip away at women's rights. The closer our law gets to recognizing full fetal personhood the sooner pro-lifers will have a leg to stand on with regard to RvW being overturned. My faith that the legal system will openly recognize the right to bodily domain (as it has in the past in similar cases such as McFall V Shimp) is not very high given that these same court systems do not recognize the equal rights of homosexuals and have, in the past, decided blacks and whites can't marry because the bible says so.

My problem is, my support for abortion rests entirely, or almost so, on bodily domain, so, I don't really have a problem with things like Conner's law, I just have a problem with what it means for abortion rights.
Basically, if the legal system openly recognized bodily domain, I'd be supporting laws like this... but since it doesn't, it makes me nervous.

I thought that the fetus could only be recognized as another murder if it was viable... like if an 8 1/2 month woman was murdered. But 4 months?!
Jeesuhs...how rediculous. How long has "conner's law" been on the books?

Two counts of murder should only be charged IF, and ONLY IF, they can prove that a) the woman knew she was pregnant and b) that she was planning to keep it. Oh, and also if he knew she was pregnant. If he didn't know, then it should manslaughter or less, provided it meets the conditions above.
I agree with Talon, too, though.

I agree with Kraken. I think that if a woman wants her child, no one should be able to take it from her, especially when it is inside of her body.
Though the word "murder" brings up all sorts of technicalities.

in my opinion he should be charged with a serious violation of bodily domain and murder, but not two counts of murder. as much as i agree with the sentiment that no one should be able to take away her choice to keep her child, i strongly disagree with Conner's Law. it's just ******** ridiculous. ******** Conner's Law, indeed.
