The basic plot-line - a girl who loves fairy tales discovers that she's a princess of the Underworld (at least I think that was how Pan described it...) She has to be tested in three tasks before she can re-take her throne.
Things you should know: It is written and acted in Spanish. So if you hate using subtitles or don't want to take the time to pay attention to the language, don't try it!

I REALLY wanted to get this from the dvd renter but my parents wanted something...funny scream plus Meeoko was here and she was a bit freaked by the cover. I'll try next time ;]

I didn't really like that it was in Spanish, becase sometimes I just like to lay back and listen to the movie, and with this one I couldn't. And besides, I had a comedic nightmare about that thing that eats anything who eats the food on the table, and the fairy was eaten by it. It was stupid in my dream. Like, it wanted to get me and my sister, but it kept bumping into things and such. See? Comedic nightmare.
I would have liked it a bit better if they would have made an english version, but that's just me. mrgreen
I can also see why it was rated 'R.' There was a lot of gore in it.

Yes, it is in fact in Spanish. I think it would have been nice if they had made an English version as well, but after watching the movie, I believe that the overall effect would have been dampened without the romantic tones of the Spanish language.
But that's just me. heart I could be wrong. Totally wrong.
Anyways:
Kizza: The monster's name is the Pale Man. He scares me.... he kind of reminds me of the monsters in Silent Hill.

I watched it this morning ^^
It's so cool...but I didn't like the bit where that Captain obliterated that guy's nose...;o; I watched it with my dad and even he said it was good [he tends to find faults in just about EVERY movie that we watch]
What I don't understand is whether it was real or not...

Yeah, I don't like that part either... it was really disgusting and gory and gross and I cringed. Horribly. The whole entire time...
Anyway, you don't understand if the fairy tale was real? Is that what I'm getting from your question?

I don't understand if what she was seeing was real because near the end when she's talking to the faun, when she's got her brother with her, and the captain comes along, he doesn't see anything.

Some things can only be seen through the eyes of a child. None of the older people can see the faun or the faeries or the baby in the mandrake root because they don't believe in them. Ofelia, however, does believe, therefore, she can see. Get it?

I loved the trailer, loved the concept, loved the presentation, loved the design, loved the title, loved the box art but.....the movie was terrible. I was extremely disappointed. I much expected it to be more involved in the fantasy realm than in reality. Second, it was WAY too nasty, even for me, I who love 300 and LOTR the like. I love foreign language movies, but this one didn't make sense to me. It barely emphasized the cg animation and the animatronic faun, which said to me that the director didn't even care about them at all. What the heck? And so it won some Oscars, but that won't matter with me ever. That's just my opinion, I'm sorry to say it here in a thread that's praising this film. I probably sound like a total jerk, but that's how I feel about this terribly directed film. As a future film maker, I would not ever produce something like this. It's just pointless only to win some awards and not to entertain an audience. That's not what films are for, especially ones that have fantastical creatures in them.
Then again, there's no one worse then Michael Bay. If the Transformers script had been interpreted by someone else, it would've been a whole lot less jumbled and stupidly rehearsed. There's one positive. 3nodding

I thought the movie overall was a masterpiece. A dubbed version would be nice; as a Spanish speaker, even I had problems with some of the accents and cultural expressions from the Spaniards, and had to rely on the bloody subtitles =.=

i loved the movie. trully a masterpiece!! idk y but i loved the pale man! i thought i looked very cool and interesting. i thought that it was well written i loved the storyline!!!one of my favorite scenes in the movie was the part where the character mercedes slashed the captains lip!!and i really didnt mind the goryness because i love gory movies!!!at first i didnt like the faun for some reason but later on i really understood him more and started to like him!!and the fairies were awesome, it was sad when two of the fairies were eaten by the pale man crying yea and last i loved when the captain died and his eyes began to bleed it was awesome!!! 4laugh
