My all time favourite is the american drama serie Oz. surprised It's the best show ever. 6 seasons, 56 episodes.
Oz is the nickname for the Oswald State Correctional Facility, a maximum-security prison and the show is about the life inside. The serie is most focused around the Emerald (Em) City, an special unit in Oz. It's really an experiment, where they try to rerehabilitate the prisoners and make them learn responsibility. Where they give the prisoners a bit more freedom based on that they take responisbilty for it, otherwise they'll be shipped of to another closed unit. The show is very gripping and a bit hard to stomach sometimes. You get to know each prisoner and his/her (Though there was only 1 female prisoner xD) story, why they got there. Which ranges all from beeing an evil sociopaths with no moral whatsoever to kind souls who made one single mistake in life. The characters are very well written, and though most of them are cold blooded murdurers. I can't help to love them and the serie. xD
I recomment it to all of you. Based on that you can handle coarse language, drug use, hardcore violence, male (some female) frontal nudity, homosexuality, rape, ethnic and religious conflict. Though it's very violent, it's deeper than just violence. It's hard to explain. xd
