Mello's reaction to Matt's death...Do you guys think it was enough? I was a little disappointed when all Mello said was "Forgive me"...Y'know? And plus, he doesnt show too many signs of emotion either...He just kinda..."meh" and gets over it, it seems...Honestly, I would have been more satisfied if he shed a little tear...^^" But that's just me...
But then again, when a loved one dies, a normal reaction would be to have no emotions about it, because you cant really believe that it is happening...
I dunno, what do you guys think?

Well... I think this could be looked at many different ways.... so I'll see if I can comment without going totally psycho and typing a gigantic amount of paragraps... I'll try at least...

Mello clearly seemed to think that he'd given Matt the less dangerous job and that Matt would totally live. However, evidence seems to point to the fact that Mello was pretty sure that he himself would die as shown by the junk that stupid Hal says a bit later on [too lazy to go get the book right now...]. So that in itself could be seen as Mello giving himself the more dangerous job and expecting to die himself and letting Matt live on... which is really cute! But anywayz.... having said that you could thus interpret Mello's reaction to Matt's death as regretful but he doesn't show much expression since he's pretty ready to die himself, so they'll end up together anyway... or something like that...

Or at least that's my attempt at sorting it out... Thoughts?

Well, you know...The fact that Mello apologized PERIOD is a big deal...
But you know...

And yeah, I can see that...Because that's what I thought at first and stuff...that Mello already pretty much knew that he was going to die ..But you know, whatever...And whether Mello broke down and cried doesnt matter because...well, there WILL be yaoi fans no matter what...
And plus, you know, it IS sort of out of Mello' character to cry and get all emotional over something like that...But yeh, I dunno...I just think that it would have been the perfect love story, you know?
If ONLY the author had been into guy love!! XD

I think that Mello's lack of emotion from then on showed how much he did care. I dunno if anyone else noticed, but once Mello heard that Matt died, it was almost a complete shift in attitude. Normally Mello is all "rawr!" but once he saw the news, he was relatively contemplative the rest of the time he was alive. At east that's what I observed.

Although a little more man-love between Matt and Mello would have been greatly appreciated.

Off topic here, but my last post with the mrgreen really made me feel that Gaia needs a psycho emoticon. THE GREEN SMILE ISN'T PSYCHO ENOUGH.

Like, as the kidnapper, he wanted to seem intimidating and apathetic.
I think Mello knew that their deaths were coming, when he kidnapped Takada he looked so sad, especially when he pointed the gun (in the anime..awww puppy face, so cute)at her. I also think he had a lot on his mind when he heard the news, so it was probably a lot running through his head at once.

Pretty much my view of it. Mello really became...*shoots self* mellow after he found out about Matt's death. And really, would he have apologized to anyone else? Even if his reaction wasn't big, there was a reaction, and seeing as there weren't many other people...other than L and possibly Near, that he cared about. Maybe that was the biggest reaction he could create? O.o He's a complex little chocolate-eating guy.
