I'm afraid Vampirism is rather difficult to categorize these days.
If we get biblical and historical, Vampirism is a curse, some say it was casted by God, and some others assure the curse were actually three, casted by three different Arch Angels on the first Vampire.
The curses were:
Being unable to feed from fruits, animals or other food, but only from ashes and blood.
Being sentenced to live only at night, should the sunrays touch your cursed skin, it would start to combust, until your body is reduced to ashes.
Being unable to die, seeing how God has categorized Death as the continuation of life, wether it is on Hell, Purgatory or Heaven, God sentenced that The Damned are such despicable creatures that they do not deserve either Hell, Purgatory or Heaven.
Thus, Vampirism according to the ancient ethos.
In mordern times, however, Vampirism could be defined as a disease, or as a virus, there are diseases that make your skin quite sensible to the sun, other conditions make your body unable to sustain itself because of your blood, therefore you require blood transfusions, eyes being more sensible than usual to light, etcetera.
Also, Vampirism can be defined as a lifestyle, of course, you're not required to drink someone else's blood, to be considerred a Vampire, deppending on your tastes, the classic Vampire is handsome, mysterious, incredibly seductive, passionate, cult, bon vivant and gets bored easily. However, taking for sources modern Vampire movies like Blade for example, you can see that some Vampires can adapt with no problems to human conditions, including the social degradation and drugs addiction, on the contrary, the adaptation of Anne Rice's novel, "Interview With A Vampire" shows you the way "Classic Vampires" live and interact, always on the shadow, being the object of fear and fascination by the clueless mortals.
I taste and enjoy the taste of blood, not only mine, but I believe that won't make you a Vampire, or part Vampire, I see it as a way of life, a romantic way of sucessfully expressing the most hidden feelings normally, you wouldn't be able to express.

Well, not only do I like the taste of blood, but my canines are "overly" sharp. Way sharper than all my friends. In fact, my dentist asked me if he could file them down so I would quit cutting my tongue. I just got used to having sharp teeth so I don't cut my tongue anymore.

I'm not even kidding. I hate sunny days.... I like it when its slightly drizzling... (even thought that has nothing to do with anything) But I always have to wear sunglasses when I go outside... or I'll die... I really hate the sun. And I can't sleep at night. Period. I can't sleep a lot... but especually not at night. Its impossible. I love the taste of blood... its weird though.... becuase I don't like seeing blood... but I love the way it tastes... One time my friend told me to bight her as hard as I could (why? I have no idea.... o.o) So I did... and she start bleeding... and so... I licked up the blood... then she stared at me like I was a freak. >.<
