Well, let me start off with this: Our vibraphone is crud.
The felt pad is indented, the reverberation tubes keep falling out of their sockets...and the support beams sometimes come out of their positions.
At one point I wanted to learn violin.
Well, after doing some reasearch, I found that vibraphone is possibly one of the hardest instruments there is for percussion. (or in general, really...)
And I'm good at it. XD Go figure.
Anyone else think that vibes are weirdly hard/easy for them? Anyone have four mallet solos?
Any techniques you'd like to share?
POST 'EM HERE!
EDIT: I've decided to make it a mallets chat, since not many people play vibes.

i know what you mean. for some reason the temor section seems to be the most interesting!!!
i played marimba for drumline last year, and vibes for marching band this year. but you can't really call it a marching band. it's more of a pep band on a field. rolleyes

I played flute for marching band, but I'm in Front Ensamble (pit) for indoor percussion. Though I play piano for indoor, the front ensamble captain is making me learn vibes as well. Any tips?

Practice, a lot.
Using the piano at home if you don't have a bell set works great.

Our old marimba was hecka bad too...
The support beam always fell out causing the resonators to fall out and then the whole marimba would just fall apart...so we had to reassemble it and then we put bungee cords on it so it wouldn't fall apart as easily... xd
But anyways...I love vibes...I'm just not good at them... xp

Heh.
Made me realize how much the resonance tubes really do amplify the sound. XD 'cause I had to play it once with it still broken.

My vibes ARE NOT yellow, they are silver. They are brand new, and they are dynasty. I win :]
To bad season is over, STATE was so much fun! straight superior percussion!

I play flute for marching band too! I am playing timpani in indoor and I played marimba last year. We have a really crap set of vibes and a good set. The crap set is dented and broken, and all the wheels are flat, so it tips when you try to roll it....
