I was looking at mugglenet in the section for anagrams, and that's where I just found about the Mirror of Erised thing. The the inscriptions on it, 'Erised stra ehru oyt ube cafru oyt on wohsi', backwards is 'I show not your face but hearts desire'. Can't believe I never noticed that.

A lot of poeple don't notice that kind of stuff. Most people don't read backwards either, so you're not stupid or anything. I had to point this out to some of my family members. <3
It doesn't help that I figured it out because of pure dumb luck.

Hehehe, thats awesome. Whenever there was something weird like name and stuff in the books, I always thought they were you know just latin and I never bothered with it. Its so crazy how much effort Rowling put into her books. Now I'm sad that they're finished.

Well, growing up in the Catholic church, I knew it wasn't latin... I thought it was something in Gobbledegook or something...
Erised is about the coolest name ever. 3nodding

Hm... Wow, I never even thought to read it backwards... I actually never wondered what it meant, I just assumed it was an inscription about what the mirror did (I was right about that, I suppose, hee hee).
And yeah, it is a cool name... sounds like a cool thing to name your kid, if you want them to have an off beat name hee hee

Its so crazy how much effort Rowling put into her books. Now I'm sad that they're finished. She's a genius... Seriously. Imagine how much thinking she had to do to put the whole story in (and it's quite a plotline) and most of the names and words she made up or used had backgrounds or origins (eg. Animagus - Combination of the Latin words "animal" and "magus," meaning "animal wizard."). Every character had their story, someone they were in love with, someone they were lying to... And she had all the plot, all the characters, all the events and all the little, important details laid out in her head. I think she's one hell of a woman. heart

I'd assumed it was Latin for a long time. About the eighth time I read it though, I tried spelling it backwards. I love playing with words (not to mention I'd been reading a lot of Lemony Snicket), so that's why I tried it. Cool, huh? I love how little details are hidden throughout the Harry Potter books.
