Landing
As always, it was night time. Jeane was in the kitchen, scrubbing the oddest crap from the bottom of a pan. There was a knock at the door, and Rene raised an eyebrow. That was never a good sign.
And, of course, Jeane opened the door, and of course, there was a sobbing little girl there who clung to Jeane like she was the only safe place in a storm. Rene rolled her eyes and went back to her book.
"Sh... It's okay, really, it is-" Jeane assured the girl, petting her hair. Eventually her sobs stopped, and Jeane put her on the couch and wrapped her in a blanket.
As soon as she was out of the room, the girl looked at Rene. "Read to me." She said, crocodile tears gone.
"Piss off." Rene advised.
It certainly didn't bode well for their relationship...
