Of purest blood the moon will rise
Upon the House of Thorn
Cloaked in power and treacherous eyes
The first deceiver is sworn

To do the bidding of He Who Shines
Lest all be brought to end
A serpent from his fear will come
From which none can defend

A puppet with a golden string
She wears both darkness and light
Decisions made by turning wing
By kindness or by might

Fate tells of futures twin
Of victory and defeat
One may lead to glory and sin
Or one may riches cheat

Beware the puppet, O House of Thorn
Destroyed by errors foretold
Decisions made by rulers sworn
Are ne'er to be controlled

General Information

    Name: Vlasia Jade Aspera

    Gender: Female

    Age: 19

Occupation: Student (money provided primarily by family - seeking independent income)

Primary Magic: Illusions and Mind-Manipulation specializing in Emotion; Control over physical aspects such as strength and speed. Basic spells of most other elements - gaining strength in the field of Water.

Secondary Magic: Basic spells in most other elements.

Physical Description: 5'4, slender and somewhat pale. Black hair reaching to mid-back, with a single white streak next to her face. Burgundy eyes that fluctuate in hue depending on mood. She typically wears darker colors, if not that then at least a bit of black in every outfit. Not too proud to wear 'normal' clothing, but always looking sharp one way or another. She's a big fan of jewelry.

Personality:Confident to the point of near-arrogance. Having been raised in a very wealthy household where the family name was most important, she has a very...healthy sense of pride in both herself and the name that comes with it, and has no problem in showing it. She can be degrading and 'snooty' to those she deems lower than the standard of her class, but strives to keep this under control. A good intelligence and quick wit can earn her respect regardless of class. Vlasia is hardworking and single-minded, finding it hard to focus on more than one task at once. Not extraordinarily talented, just extraordinarily driven. Once past the less-desirable characteristics of both herself and others, she is a very loyal and caring individual. She will do anything and everything to keep those 'worthy' few safe, even if it means crossing a few boundaries and stepping on a few toes...unless the danger to herself is just too great. All in all, Vlasia must constantly fight to make sure that she takes others into consideration before herself, a fight that she doesn't always win.
**Whether due to her own personality, or the pressure of her family, she seeks more power and elemental skill....perhaps through the acquisition of another dragon?

History: Vlasia Jade Aspera is the eldest of three children born to the House of Thorns, a wealthy and ancient wizarding family that is notorious for their dabblings in the Dark Arts and their opposition to the formation of the Order of Wizards. Thanks to a prophecy recorded in ancient scrolls by a reportedly 'crazy' individual the family is constantly on the lookout for 'the puppet with a golden string', a female child to be born to the purest of blood with the ability to increase the family's wealth and prestige tenfold and possibly remove the 'useless' Order. Well, since 'pure blooded' describes nearly every individual in the family, countless generations have made teaching children the darkest and strongest of magics a staple in their upbringing.

    Vlasia is no different.

Despite the regulations set down by the Order of Wizards (which the House of Thorns despises, but must nevertheless obey), the magic-users of the Aspera family study whatever type of magic suits them regardless of danger or intensity. As such, she was taught the darker magics, mind manipulation among them, and soon became quite competent in the areas she chose to study. Upon completing and passing the given tests, she was allowed into the Order of Wizards and given a dragon named Stolz - a dragon with the element of Pride. Encouraged by the element of her given dragon, her powerful (and somewhat deranged) mother continues to keep a stranglehold on the future of her eldest daughter, believing her to be the one the prophecy speaks of.

General Information

    Name: Stolz

    Gender: Male

    Age: Hatchling

    Primary Affinity: Pride

    Secondary Affinity(/ies): Water

Physical Description: A primarily white dragon with piercing blue eyes. The horn of a unicorn presents itself in classic spiraling fashion on his forehead, while feathered wings fading from blood red to white adorn his back. Red runs from the top of his head to the tip of his tail, fading to white as it moves away from his spine, with blotches of a deeper red following this trail. Similar coloration exists on all four feet.

Personality: He is a friendly dragon with a vain streak - every feather must always be in order. Stolz has a bit of a temper at times, and is always fiercely protective of his master Vlasia. It seems that a good belly-rub can calm him down in an instant.

    Mate: N/A

Dear journal,

The egg hatched!

He's a beautiful creature. Red and white - I should have guessed. I also should have guessed that his element would be Pride, but I had not dared hope for such good fortune. We shall work well together, Stolz and I. That is what I chose to name him - Stolz. It means 'pride' in the language of the north. So unique, I know.

I am adjusting well to this place. It is certainly better than home. More freedom, less demands of my time. Not that I dislike having my time filled. I am often researching skills and spells, or learning more about Stolz. Here, however, it is a different sort of demand. Inner demand, rather than the ramblings of my mother. I swear that if she'd open her eyes and realize that the days of prophecy are long gone, and the world emerging is no longer a place of conquest and family heirarchy.....well, everything would be easier. Today's world doesn't care so much for family as it does for individual power. That is fairer world for all, though fairness is hardly my priority. I won't lie and say that I don't want power, but I'm not going to pretend that it's for the reasons my mother believes.

I honestly think the woman was born in the wrong time. I am a puppet of no one, much less of her, and much less of a prophecy that never held any meaning in the first place. I suppose, though, that old dogs can't learn new tricks, and neither can they drop useless ones.

Ah, well. Onto other things.

I am getting bored with simply studying. To-do List: Find a job, or a project. Neither should be difficult to procure in such a bustling place.

Dear journal,

I have found a most thoughtful poem. I shall recount it here

Lo! 'tis a gala night
Within the lonesome latter years!
An angel throng, bewinged, bedight
In veils, and drowned in tears,
Sit in a theatre, to see
A play of hopes and fears,
While the orchestra breathes fitfully
The music of the spheres.

Mimes, in the form of God on high,
Mutter and mumble low,
And hither and thither fly-
Mere puppets they, who come and go
At bidding of vast formless things
That shift the scenery to and fro,
Flapping from out their Condor wings
Invisible Woe!

That motley drama- oh, be sure
It shall not be forgot!
With its Phantom chased for evermore,
By a crowd that seize it not,
Through a circle that ever returneth in
To the self-same spot,
And much of Madness, and more of Sin,
And Horror the soul of the plot.

But see, amid the mimic rout
A crawling shape intrude!
A blood-red thing that writhes from out
The scenic solitude!
It writhes!- it writhes!- with mortal pangs
The mimes become its food,
And seraphs sob at vermin fangs
In human gore imbued.

Out- out are the lights- out all!
And, over each quivering form,
The curtain, a funeral pall,
Comes down with the rush of a storm,
While the angels, all pallid and wan,
Uprising, unveiling, affirm
That the play is the tragedy, "Man,"
And its hero the Conqueror Worm.

It is called "The Conqueror Worm", by a man called Edgar Allen Poe. I have never heard of him before, but he seems to be both a troubled and incredibly brilliant individual.

I am researching the idea of adding another affinity to my companion. The powers of Gravity are most intriguing. The ability to crush and suffocate my opponents, draw them into me....fascinating. Intoxicating, even. I do not expect to have it soon, but I shall have it. I do not bode well when I do not get what I desire.

I have earned friends in this place. Ix, a member of the Order whose dragon is of water, Estuary, and a student of the musical arts. Musical arts concerning dragons, that is. I do not know if such a profession actually exists, but I will not doubt him yet. He seems to be a solid man at his core. Exactly how scratchy the outside is, however, I do not yet know.

Oscwen and Scylla, a dragon with the element of Steel, are kind individuals. Oscwen pays excruciatingly detailed attention to her surroundings, including those wizards that she meets - including myself. i know not what conclusion she drew, but I also care not.

Raelan. His dragon has substantially better manners than he does. Young little wizard, intelligent, well-groomed...in appearance. He seems the type to only be tolerable when he wishes to be. Otherwise? How I wish my abilities in the field of manipulation were stronger. Advanced though they may be, it is a tricky subject, and all the more difficult to master. In that sense, I can do little more than anger further one who is so cocky. Do not get me wrong, I know what it means to live in a world of riches and power - intoxicating, as all power is. He, however, does not yet know how to handle it, I believe.

Somehow, though....I feel that we will be either great comrades, or mortal enemies. Or, perhaps, both.

Dear journal,

Stolz is now able to manipulate the element of water. An unforseen, but welcomed, development.

My studies now must shift to focusing both on matters of the mind and of water. And...other things.

I do not car if I anger anyone in this place, but at the same time, I do not wish to do so. Though my....primary field of study may be largely limited, there are still magics here that, though forbidden, are recorded. They are currenty too difficult for my skill level (Pride is a tricky business, after all) but I must find and acquire them regardless, for future use. My family has long despised the Order and its limitations, and I too am now starting to feel the latter half of that hostility....but I do not hate the Order, and will therefore only snoop so far as the corners of the main libraries. I know that more provincial figures have access to more potent magic, but I do not currently see the need to step on those particular toes.

Either way, I should hope to find what I need soon.

Dear journal,

A new friend has entered my life.

He's a small fellow. Slightly-frail looking. His dragon's name is Xylia, and she is of the forest affinity. His name is Nall Fox - an intelligent lad. He won me over with the following comment.

“Water and pride? Doesn’t seem that odd… think about it. People have been trying to tame water for centuries. Fishing and traveling on it… we still don’t know a lot about it. I think of that as a prideful thing......It can’t be held for very long. No matter how tightly you lace your fingers together, the water will eventually trickle out, no matter where it came from. There's something very proud about something that can't be controlled or contained.”

I must admit, I had never thought of it that way before. We talked for a very long time while our dragons played. He is a student, like I, and just as focussed as I am on studies. Nall does not, however, currently know exactly what his dragon's capabilities are..but the dragon is young. He has time yet. After all, as I told him, the only reason that I know what Stolz can do (to a degree) is because my own abilities were already polished in that area. Polished for now, that is - I have found more intense magic to study. But that is another matter entirely.

I plan on seeking him out in the future. He's a welcomed breath of fresh air in this place.
