Is it stoopid in here...

Whether you like it or not. You stereotype without even knowing it. You organize people into classes and hang out with the people you generalize as "cool". For instance. I am pinoy, I hang out with Asians, Pacific Islanders, Vietnamese, etc. Maybe I would take a look at say, the jocks across from the MP room. See already stereotyped. Jocks. So I would say stereotyping isn't bad so long as it's not targeted at a single race. So if you were to meet a Phillipino who was a little...off, don't stereotype all of us just cause of one person's flaws.

...or is it just me?

I think that be refusing to accept that are indeed differences between races.. we incite more racism.

Why ignore what is obvious.. my skin is white, yours is black, his is brown, hers is yellow... shes got epicantic folds.. I don't.

While I agree that equality is a good thing.. its also somewhat unrealistic.. because we aren't equal... We ARE different. And that is what's beautiful. That we are different.
I don't hate, I don't discriminate, I don't ignore.

I am not going to pretend like my Japanese friends here aren't Japanese. Because they ******** ARE Japanese. They are different then I am.. and it's what makes them unique from me, what makes me unique from them.

Do you see what I am saying? I think equality is unrealistic.. but acceptance.. that is totally doable.
Well, when I say equality, what I really mean is like equal rights, equal treatment.

Today my law in American Society teacher was talking about how whites view our justice system (for them) as almost perfect. they see a few flaws, but when it comes to down to it, it works just fine for them.

He mentioned how when his father first taught him how to drive he said, "If you ever get pulled over by a cop, I'm going to kick your a**." Because usually if a white person gets pulled over, it's because he's actually done something wrong.

Then he mentioned one of his African-American friend's father's way of teaching, and when he taught him, he said, "WHEN a cop pulls you over, keep both hands on the steering wheel, tell them if you're about to go for your liscence and insurance and stuff, move slowly, don't make any sudden movements, etc.." and he was completely serious about it. He didn't mean it like his son was a drug dealer or criminal, but it's just happened so often that he has to teach his family that so there won't be any unecessary conflict with the law. Now is that equal or even acceptance?

I think you missed my point >.> What I am saying has nothing to do with how different races are treated.. its more about recognizing that we are different, and not treating each other differently because of it... rolleyes
Aakiyana, I really don't want to get into a debate about how white cops treat minorities. I was simply stating how I feel we should deal with difference in skin colour as a whole.
I'm not trying to get into a debate about how cops (I also didn't say white) treat minorities either. And I'm not against recognizing that we are different, but my point is that yes we are differen, but when noticing that difference leads to racism and prejudice, then that's when it's not good. I know I'm not the same skin color as you, and I never want anyone to not see that I am black. What I want is the generalizations to stop about me being black. Because I'm black, doesn't mean I'm a gang-banging gangsta/drug dealer.

Well, I think stereotyping groups or "labels" or people is different than stereotyping races. It shouldn't be done still, but I do admit to stereotyping general cliche groups of people (jocks, nerds, emos, etc.), but I try not to stereotype races or ethnicities because, I've felt the butt-end of a bad generalization/stereotype.

I hate stereotypes and racism like any other person who has be attacked like this (I'm a Latina from Mexico) but, the problem is that there's always going to be at least that one ignorant person, could be of any race or color, judging people by these stereotypes.
For example, Im a straight A student and at the top of my class, but people are always saying "why are you here? shouldn't you be in fields with the rest of giant family of fruit or vegetable pickers?" I only have 1 sibling, who is a pharmacist, and both my parents are accountants, but just because im Mexican, they automatically assume this. I just wish there weren't people like this, but sadly there will always be these people
