Things were settling down nicely, to Akamu's mind. He, Hige, and Calico had made it to the packlands with not much fuss, and the other members of the pack had been kind. Currently, the earth-toned wolf was exploring the edges of the territory with his brother. Technically, he was attempting to decide upon a den to stay in... but really, he was just curious about the lands. He'd never been in this part of the world before.
He paused a moment, raising his head inquisitively. The scent he had just caught... it was no prey animal, and familiar...? Not one of the pack, though..
Curious indeed.

Hige was in the midst of talking, and continued on a few steps before stopping himself and turned, trying to see where the scent came from. As Lavena protruded forth Hige's muscles rippled beneath his fur, tensing at first. His tail lifted and his head twitched a hair or two lower more on instinct than anything. He'd already encountered one stranger at his land's boundaries before this however, so he didn't accuse before finding out the facts this time, especially since she came out--
Smiling??
Hige's jaw clamped shut quickly to keep any flies from zipping in. His posture straightened and he came back to stand beside his brother with a curious look. ~She must be a friend of Akamu's, then, maybe one of his old packmembers...!~
"Is she a friend of yours, bro?"

Akamu's eyes had widened a little in surprise when he recognized Lavena- so that was why the scent was familiar!- come into sight. He was unaware of the small smile that had slipped onto his muzzle, but shook his head when Hige spoke, as if he was flinging off excess water that didn't exist.
"Hm? ... Yes, she is. I met her before we travelled to the packlands with Calico- her name is Lavena." He seemed... cheerful? But, why should he not? Lavena was one of the few adult wolves he had met and considered a trustworthy friend besides Hige. Yes, he liked Thayne, but he hadn't spoken long with his brother's second in command for very long.
He glanced at the she-wolf again, the small smile remaining and voice slightly raised to reach her ears. "Greetings!"
Of course, Akamu was no dullard. He had noticed his brother's reaction to Lavena's prescence, but the wolf hoped to dispell Hige's defensiveness. Besides, he highly doubted the female would pose a threat to the pack... she hardly seemed like the violent type, to him.

Hige's brow arched, amused. Looking back over the gray-pelted female the alpha nodded in return, lowering his brow before doing such. "Nice t'meet you, too. Lavena, I'm Hige." He flashed a grin, feeling like teasing his older brother a bit as he gave a wraggle of his brow. "Akamu's handsome younger brother, I'm sorry to say that he hadn't mentioned having such a lovely female companion!"
Hige could be such a jerk. XD;; Ah, well at least it was all meant in good fun. He glanced at Akamu hoping he wouldn't get angry.

He gave a mental sigh, glad to see that it was as he'd thought- Hige had calmed down when Lavena failed to show aggression. Perhaps them knowing each other had helped, but Akamu didn't give much thought to the issue in general.
He nudged Lavena gently with his own muzzle, returning the friendly greeting she'd extended before turning to Hige and nipped at his fur good naturedly. "I would be careful were I you, brother. If your mate ever caught wind that you might be flirting with Lavena, I do not know what would happen."
... Wait. Was Akamu actually teasing his brother?? XD; It was hard to tell, since he kept a straight, friendly face through it all, but it was very possible that he was. Of course, he could have just been getting a smidgeon defensive of Hige's flirtation... Bah, but that made no sense, did it? Anyway, the older wolf returned his attention to the female.
"I must confess that I am curious, though... What are you doing in this area? It is a good ways journey from where I saw you last.."

Hige looked the part of panicked. Suddenly he looked much more nervous than amused and he chuckled weakly, scenting the air in hopes that Loki had NOT overheard and misunderstood that!
"Er, ah... eh heh...!"
COUGH.
"Ahm. No reason to feel unwanted. If you're a friend of Aka's, you're welcome to stay with us for a while. Our pack is small, but there's plenty of land to go around. Relax and enjoy your visit."
He glanced to Akamu, secretly wondering on that response. Female friend, bringing smiles to his brother's maw, hmm, suuuuspiiiiiiciiouuuuus!
"Akamu, maybe you could even give her a tour." He teased again a bit, more discreetly this time with a small grin back in place.

As he had thought, his comment had convinced Hige to tone it down for now. Akamu didn't know why such a thing caused him to feel victorious, but he hid the thought, and his mild confustion at it, fairly well with a simple smile and something of a smug look in his eyes.
He turned his attention towards Lavena yet again at his brother's words, nodding in agreement to them. He was glad that Hige was allowing his friend to stay within the borders if she so desired, if because that meant that he'd be able to know where she was. Akamu, though generally a reserved wolf, was very protective of those who were close to him, and he tended to worry about them when he didn't know their locations.
For example, Suzaku, Helaku, and Lavena. He'd left Suza in quite a state, and Laku... Well.... How was he not to worry over the well being of his adopted son?
For all his intelligence, though, Akamu failed to catch the second tease that Hige sent his way, merely nodding again and speaking to Lavena. "I do not know the land very well because I am new to it myself, but I will certainly try to show you around, if you wish me to."
