If there was a single thing that Lixxie was most excellent at, it was getting lost. And she was, indeed, very good at it.
Somehow, on her way to the daycare, she had gotten sidetracked into a large auditorium. Sidetracked, in this instance, meant Carlisle Mephisto had decided to adventure beyond the safety of his mother's hands. He went from her arms straight to the stairs, and from the stairs to an open door in which there were many strange articles of clothing. Being so hopelessly lost now, she had simply given up on leaving- especially since he was smiling and patting a fake rose he had pulled out of a cardboard box.
Lixxie sighed and settled onto another box, watching the little boy play. It should be illegal to look so cute and innocent at the same time- at first, she'd figured he had a hidden diabolical personality. Over the past week, it had become obvious that while he had a vague look, Carlisle Mephisto was a very good, and generally quiet, boy. That was a relief.
So was the fact that no one had come in yet. Surely an unlocked door would attract attention, as it had her son's?...

Devakanya was a good girl. She did not go looking for trouble. Instead, she just walks down the hall from where ever she came from to where ever she was going. There were never any detours. She never stopped to talk either. Well, if she could stop to talk, she still wouldn't.
...the door was open. Doors shouldn't be left open. The unicorn stepped over, leaning in to shut it when she thought she heard a noise. A normal person would yell and ask if someone was in there before locking them in. As she couldn't Devi decided maybe she should just check, very quickly, before carrying on. She dogged up the stairs and peered into her room.
Imagine her surprise actually finding someone there!

Carlisle Mephisto turned around when he heard someone in the doorway, then smiled brightly at Devakanya. He waved the red paper rose at her, giving her his most endearing vague look, then shoved the lid of another box out of his way in order to get to the colorful and shiny treasures inside.
"I'm sorry," Lixxie said hurriedly. "Is there something you need in here? We were just going."

Devakanya blinked. Well. She certainly didn't expect to be offered a flower. She liked flowers, especially when someone was giving them to her. She gave the boy a shy smile and took the delicate, fake rose from him, admiring it before his mother started speaking.
She glanced up at the lady, shaking her head and blinking owlishly. They didn't need to leave! She just got here! Trying to explain, she pointed to the door. She just wanted to check she wasn't going to lock someone in the room and trap them forever. The unicorn took a step backwards. She could leave. They were here first, after all.

Lixxie shook her head. "No, no, it's okay," she said with relief, as if she could understand Deva. "We don't bite."
Carlisle Mephisto nodded. They didn't bite! Except fruits. He liked apples, they were red and crunchy. He pulled a green apple out of the props box and tried fruitlessly to bite into it, then sighed when the proper result was not yielded. Instead of trying again, he sat and pouted for a minute in front of the box.

Devakanya blinked, confused this lady understood her so well. It was very rare someone got even a clue of what she was trying to communicate. Well, at least they didn't eat people. She had to fear that much more than one would think she would. She nodded slowly, twirling the paper flower in her fingers.
The unicorn turned to watch the small boy. Why was he trying to eat a fake apple...? Hmm. Maybe he didn't understand this was the stuff they got to use for dress-up sometimes. She smiled a little, stepping forward and pulling a sun hat from the box. She placed it on her head and nodded to the boy, as if to say, 'see?'.

It was, perhaps, the unicorn girl's fortune that Lixxie tried not to talk a lot herself. She knew what others meant through body language and gestures. The woman smiled encouragingly and said, "Do you go to school here?"
Carlisle blinked up at Devakanya, then reached into a box and pulled out a particularly frilly skirt. Solemnly, he placed it on his head. When it fell down around his feet, he stared at it with a look of confusion. "Mmmm," he said, picking it up and trying again.

It was kind of weird the mother understood her better than the boy. Usually, the kids were the only ones who paid attention enough to decipher her. Oh well. All as well. She just shrugged and nodded. She probably wasn't at school enough, but that's because Zack...well, Zack.
She turned back to the little boy just in time to see her put the skirt on his head. Had she been able to make noise, she would have giggled a little. That wasn't a hat. She learned down, rummaging threw the box until she found a pretty ruby red head and offered it to Carlisle. That should work better!

Lixxie smiled encouragingly. "Do you like it here?" It was nice, to see Carlisle Mephisto playing with someone other than the others on the same floor of her dorm. A little boy needed friends at least a bit closer to his age than the freshmen and sophomores that crowded her building.
He sighed happily, practically emanating happiness as he patted the hat on his head. Then he, too, leant over- though he nearly toppled in the process- and picked up the skirt. Carlisle Mephisto offered it to Devakanya with a big smile.
