Where's my guitar when it comes to adding it onto any of the million-some-odd lyrics I have written? I-DO-NOT-KNOW!!! I feel like I don't even know how to play guitar anymore when I'm trying to think of what to do first. WHERE IN GOD'S NAME DO I START!!?? What do I do first when it comes to adding the guitar part, or for that matter even if I start the guitar part!? WHAT DO I DO!!??

Try playing some chords over the lyrics. They don't have to be tough or complicated, or even different from other songs you've heard. The other thing you need to do is try writing some vocal melodies. If you've written out your chords, use the chord tones to work in some vocal melodies that fit.

In another similar thread I Well first a good thing to do is work out what notes you're exactly singing. Like pick out the tune on guitar and write down what notes they are. Then find out what chords go best with those notes, like if you sing an A, a C and an E in one bar then Am is going to be the most obvious chord to use. Doing this is a great way to start writing songs, and after you've gotten used to it you'll get more confident and just start to hear what chords should go where without having to write them down.

and how am I supposed to know what each note is? I mean, I know what it is if I had the use of a keyboard, or imagined a keyboard design to try and figure it out, but that takes me like 3 whole minutes to figure that out!

Well you could do it that way, but why don't you just play the melody you're singing on your guitar. If you've been playing a little while then you should know your way around the guitar, at least well enough to figure out what notes you're playing.

Well you know it's EADGBe (or whatever tuning you happen to use) don't you? Why should finding out the rest of them be so hard?

It's Just A-G... You do know your abc's don't you? The only thing to remember is where the sharps and flats are. And that's easy, just remember that Simpsons episode where Homer joins a barber shop band called the B-sharps. And F-flat (or E-sharp) I used to remember because there's two F's next to each other.
Either way you don't need to know the exact notes! Just sing the melody then work it out on guitar. You don't have to know the exact notes in a theoretical sense, I mean can you play a 1000bpm shred solo and say the exact notes? Of course you can't, I doubt anyone can without spending 5 minutes to figure it out (maybe a bit less if it's like a jazz player who knows his theory). But there are still people who can play those solos. Do you understand what I'm saying? In the last post I put A C and E for an example. Write it down any way you understand, that can be tab or score or anything.

okay well I've been in the school band classes for about a year now and I'm pretty much figuring all of this out. I just need to figure out a few notes that go along with the vocals' notes, then I can figure out the scale that goes along with it, then I can come up with plenty of different notes to correspond with the vocals and bass to make chords xd
