does anyone know the name of the actress who plays Mimi in the Broadway production of Rent? As well as the actress who plays her in the movie? Would be greatly appreciated.

Daphne Ruben-Vega is the original Mimi.
Rosario Dawson plays her in the film.

It's hard to choose one over the other =/ Yeah, I know right! I used to always feel kinda bad, 'cause I saw the movie first, and when I heard Daphne, I preferred Ro. :/ But then... I've come to accept that I don't have to ALWAYS prefer the OBC and stuff, right? DR-V will forever be special to me (and the creation of RENT), being the original and hand-picked by Jonathan Larson twice. But still, I'd say that Rosario is about my favorite Mimi. :33

It's hard to choose one over the other =/ It is indeed hard to choose. I like both voices, both acting skills, and both personalities. They both take the charachter their own ways.

And it is okay to not prefer someone from the orignal cast. Sure, originality rocks and all, but people are different =)

Both actresses are incredible! I've seen some of the Broadway production on YouTube and it's great! All the actors are talented.

I agree.
I heard Light my Candle with Daphne in it first. After seeing the movie and listening to Rosario, I liked her much better. I think Daphne's voice is fitting for the role of Mimi, if you know what I mean. But even though Rosario's voice is totally different- maybe not less fitting, but surely different- I prefer her's.
As for the acting, I can't say. I've only seen Rosario in the movie and the American Idol girl (forgive me, name slips my mind).

Anyway, I heard daphne first and loved her voice to death, but if you listen to her sing now, it's...not...good. I wouldn't say that if I didn't think it was true. Look her up singing "I dreamed a dream" from les miz. Her voice...died. Rosario has a beautiful voice. It's not as unusual as Daphne's, but it's good and much more consistant. I'd have to say that if I were casting mimi and I got to pick between the two, I'd choose Rosario.

I agree that I like Rosario better. I'm not really sure why she just sounds better to me. I saw the movie first too though.

DR-V as some have said is the obc mimi, Rosario is in the movie, and recently on broadway we have Antonique Smith (who is AMAZING and I miss her, she's the mimi depicted in my profile) and currently we've got Tamyra Grey who is also really good (good enough to play opposite adam smile ) and was on american idol (or that's what I've heard, I don't watch tv)
