[.Lesson 1: Welcome To Hell High.]

There we were staring at this two story building called North High School home of the North Stars.

I took in a deep breath as I looked over and up at Jade, my best friend since 7th grade.

"I can't do this" I turned around as I squished my messanger bag closer to my body.

"Come onnn" Jade whined as he grabbed my wrist.

I stopped dead in my tracks.

Whatever I did I could not turn around. I knew this trick all to well.

"Jade," oops, I turned around only to face the all convincing puppy dog eyes.

"Mmmm" my head fell back as I stared up at the sky and snarled at the thought of High School.

"Come on! You can't leave me to DIE here all alone" Jade tugged at my arm.

I looked up at him and squinted as the corners of my motuh plumeted to the floor.

"Fineeee" I dragged out my word.

"Great!" 5'10" Jade wrapped his arm with mine and we trotted into this new world.

Out of the pond and into the ocean.

- - - - -

It was true.

High School was COMPLETELY different from Junior High.

The students were MUCH taller and more...grown in all the right places. [While I was still only in a 32 A cup...]

They were all so different. You could tell who belonged to what group. For the most part I could see the MAIN groups. The emo/scenes, the artsies, the jocks/cheerleaders, the thugs/gangsters/posers, the skaters, and the preps/surfers.

I could tell Jade was thinking the same thing; "we won't fit in to any of these groups"

I placed my hand on my forehead and dragged it down my face.

"Don't worry I'm sure there has to be SOME group for us to be friends with" Jade gave me a quick grin.

I could care less about that what I wanted to know was how long could we survive?

We went to the cafiteria talking about how llamas would soon take over the world and we'd be their right hand people when we got in line to get our scheduals.

"I hope we get atleast two classes together like last year" Jade clapped.

"I know, huh? All our classes were the same except you had art and I had choir also I had advanced English while you had normal" I said.

"I still can't see HOW you could have done all that work Mr. Huens gave you guys" Jade gave a lop sided smile.

"Honeslty" I blinked "I don't know" my eyes grew wide at the thought of all the work he had given us. At the time it didn't seem like much but now thinking back on it, it was a little too much for an 8th grader.

We finally reached the front of the line and got our scheduals.

"I'm Avis Dixie" I stated.

"And I'm Jade Aberham"

The cheerleader gave us our schedual with a smile.

I can still remember thinking that was the most fake smile on earth but then again who could blame her? Wearing those short skirts ALL day then getting an ear full from perverted guys isn't exactly a joy ride. Nevertheless, she was you cliche cheerleader. Long blond hair that reached her mid back, blue blue eyes, dimples when she smiled, 5'8" ish, curvey bone structure.

"Megra!" I heard loud and clear from a little ways behind me.

Of course, this made me look over my shoulder.

This is the part when my mouth opens slightly and my eye brows raise about two inches higher then they should.

Jade obviously saw my reaction and user his index finger to close my mouth.

"Aha" I gave a nervous laugh as I rubbed the back of my neck.

"Mhmm" his lips went to the side of his mouth as he crossed his arms "I wouldn't get your hopes up, Avis"

"Who ever said-" I couldn't finish my sentence-he knew.

"All of the girls are either after him or Rocky Montgumery" Jade looked over at him.

"Who is he, Jade?" I said staring at the boy with flawless skin.

"From what I heard his name is Korey Duran, he's a Sophmore now, he's supposedly the best of the best at drums...he's in drum line, he's the IT boy...envied by all boys and lusted after by most girls" Jade informed me.

I bit my bottom lip and smiled as I pictured us together.

Jade silently shook his head as he looked over his shoulder, "Well, well, well, it's Rocky Montgumery"

I couldn't look I was too busy staring at the form of perfection.

"Move" someone said and pushed me causing me to fly forward. I tried catching my balance but to no avail I tried over Jades sizes 9 shoe and fell flat on my stomach my schedual flying into the sky.

"Avis!" Jade exclaimed then spun around to the person who pushed me down "HEY, JACKASS, WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM!?"

I pushed myself up off the floor and shook my head putting my hand on the side of my forehead.

"You ok?" Jade asked putting his right hand on my shoulder.

"What'd you call me?" asked this buff black boy.

Jade's eye brows sank and he got this serious look on his face.

"Not only are you rude but you're deaf too?" he sneered.

"Wanna start something, punk?" the black boy with cornrose made a gesture with his neck telling Jade he'd take him on outside.

At first it didn't process what was going on until I actually saw Jade take a step forward ready to unlease hell on the guy.

"Uh...HEY!" I shook my head and forced myself between Jade and the black boy.

Jade noticed my stuggle and backed up.

"Calm down! It was an accident" I said to both boys.

"Pssh" the black guy waved his hand at me "whatever"

My head jerked back and my upper lip rose in disgust.

"Rude much?" I said.

The boy turned around and gave me the most evil glare I had ever seen and I gave it right back.

"Let's go" Jade said as he dragged me away. The whole way I had a staring contest with the buff boy.

"That guy was such a p***k" Jade said as he handed me my schedual.

"Wanna take this outside?!" I scoffed.

"Haha, nice black voice" Jade shook his head "now, classes together?"

I looked over my schedual and saw this:

1-Earth Science
2-P.E.
3-Beginners Choir
4-Lunch
5-French
6-Math
7-G.A.T.E. [gifted and talented education] english

Then I looked at Jades new life line up from Monday through Friday:

1-English
2-P.E.
3-Art
4-Lunch
5-French
6-Math
7-Earth Science

"YES! Almost exactly the same!" I cheered and hugged him.

"Ugh...P.E." Jade gripped.

Honestly, I had no problem with P.E., but Jade absolutly HATED P.E. he couldn't stand running and doing push-ups.

"I heard we have to run a mile every week" I passed on the world.

I heard him give a long sigh and roll his eyes.

"All freshmen students, please, report to the auditorium, again, all freshmen students, please, report to the auditorium, thank you" said the voice over intercom.

"Shall we go, fair princess?" jade bowed offering me his hand.

"I think we shall, royal prince" I curtsied and took his hand.

We both laughed and walked to the auditorium of course following people since we hand no idea where it was.

We sat towards the middle cramped inbetween two girls that seemed to fit in the artsie cliche.

"Ok, welcome all freshmen to your first day of High School, my name is Greg Lindsey, your Senior President" the surfer looking boy said, "you will be pasted a sheet of paper which you fill out so you can be put in our student handbook; don't worry, it doesn't ask anything personal just general things"

Suddenly, I recieved a small blue piece of paper asking me my first and last name, my age, three things I like, three things I dislikes, what I wanted to be when I grow up, and what I wanted to accomplish while I was here at NHS.

"We will give you 5 minutes to fill this out; beginning now" said Greg.

I took out a Hello Kitty pen from my grey messanger bag that had Hello Kitty and Choco Cat patches all over it.

This is what I wrote:
Name: Avis Dixie
Age: 14
Likes: Singing [music in general], the smell of fresh backed cookies, and astronomy
Dislikes: Cocky jerks, liers, and child abusers
What I want to be when I grow up is...a singer for a screamo band
What I would like to accomplish while I attend NHS is...

Now, this was a hard one.I started chewing on the top of my pen as I gave deep thought into what I should write for this.

"One minute" said Greg into the mic.

What I want to accomplish while I attend NHS is...become well known amoung the student body.

"Ok, please pass in your papers" Greg gave a toothy smile to every Freshman.

I passed my paper to Jade and he passed ours down the rows, the teachers at the end of each row collected the papers.

Greg went on to explaing the rules and telling us about how NHS was known for the best pep rallies when he finally got into something I actually liked.

"While here at NHS you don't want to be bored that's why we offer pleanty of extra things to do such as choir, school newspaper, drum line, Animal lovers, art lessons and more" Greg explained as he glazes his eyes over the corwd.

"Avis" Jade whispered "Greg is totally checking you out"

I gave him a "whatever" look and the looked back at Greg, to my amazement...he was.

My eyes grew wide in confusion. Was my red streak THAT bright or was he friends with that black guy Jade and I got in a little spat with?

We exited the auditorium and went straight to third period which for me was choir and for Jade it was art.

I was so excited, honestly, I couldn't wait to meet the teacher. If I got it good with him maybe I could get him to teach me after school too.

As I entered the room I took in all my surroundings. The body length mirror the almost covered the whole wall, the black grand piano, the four steps where we would stand in choir concerts, the three large windows the pouring in pounds of light. All of it was so beautiful to me. Something about singing just soothed me, brought out a part of me I never thought I had. The "true" me I guess you could say.

I was the first one in the class room and I swear to you I'd be the last to leave.

"Hello," I heard a stirdy voice.

What?

"Hi" I said and examined the man.

He was about 6'0" tall, kinda chubby, had a grey beard that was nicely cut, thin hair with grey eyes and glasses. Was THIS my choir teacher?

"Excuse me are you Polski..." I asked looking at my schedual.

"Yes, I am Mr. Polski, choir director for beginning, advanced, concert and chamber singers" he sat at his desk.

My jaw hit the floor. A MALE choir director? WHAT?!

"Don't worry, I've been doing this for 13 years now" he nodded for me to take a seat on the floor "and you are..."

"I'm Avis Dixie" I told him as I took off my messanger bag and sat down.

"Aw, I've heard a lot of good about you from your last choir teacher" he took up, folded his arms behind his back, and glided over to me "but let me tell you Miss Dixie....I won't be as easy as Mrs. Julian was" he leaned down and smirked.

Was that a challange?

"Hey, Mr. Polski!" chimed in two girls.

Mr. Polski stood up straight and walked over to the two young girls smiling broadly, "Hello Amber, Rachel"

I take it they're Sophmores since he knew their names. Wait, Sophmores in BEGINNING choir? Maybe, this would be a little harder then I thought...

The day continued as normal. Well, as normal as the first day of High School can get. I got lost for 10 minutes trying to find my G.A.T.E. English class.

"I am so tired" Jade yawned as we walked off school grounds and crossed the street.

"I wanna eat" I rubbed my stomach.

Even though I was only 105 pounds I ate like a horse.

"You are pizza at lunch AND two Butterfingers plus a banana and a soft preztle with cheese...where the hell do you put it all?" Jade booty bumped me and I stumbled a bit laughing.

"It goes in through one end and out the other!" I laughed as I jogged across the street.

"Eww!" Jade chased after me laughing.

Finally after walking for about ten minutes we got to my house.

Jade and I darted for the fridge. He grabbed the whipped cream, I grabbed the waffles, he grabbed the chocolate and I grabbed the sprinkles.

We ploped on the couch as we threw off our backs and started to make a mountain of four waffles stacked with two bars of chocolate covered in whipped cream with sprinkles to top it off.

"Get the forks?" asked Jade.

"Since when are we ever proper?" I asked.

With both gave a mischevious grin to each other and dug in with our hands eatting like savages who hadn't eatten in three weeks.

Maybe High School wouldn't be so bad.
